I listened to āThe Ghost of Bobby Dunbarā. I picked this audio recording because I absolutely love thought of ghost stories. This really wasnāt a ghost story. I have to admit I was slightly disappointed at first but after listening to this radiocast, I had to go and look up all the information on the Bobby Dunbar story.
The radio personality did a fantastic job of keeping me interested. Some of the techniques Ā he used to keep readers interested were music and voice overlapping.
While he was telling the story of what happened to poor Bobby Dunbar, he played sad and depressing music with hints of piano in the background. This set the scene for the listener and made the whole story sound a slight bit more macabre.
His use of voice overlapping is subtle, but noticeable… if that makes sense. He often will be talking about a subject and then someone else will chime in with their part. Hence when the girl is talking about the other families trying to claim Bobby.
I really liked listening to this broadcast because it was about an interesting subject that kept me entertained. The broadcaster followed Ira Glass’s theory on how to make a good radio broadcast. He had a great anecdote and a moment of realization.
