This week’s main assignment was similar to last week’s Photoblitz. This week we had unlimited time to take photos throughout the week of different design in our surroundings. The designs we were looking for had to deal with color, typography, metaphors, minimalism, form, balance, rhythm, proportion, dominance, and unity. At the end, we were asked to pick our 4 best photos and describe them. Here are all of the photos I took this week for the assignment:

And here are the 4 that I chose as my best to describe:

This is a church in Downtown Fredericksburg, and I find that this is a good example of a symbols. Churches always seem to have high steeples and belfries and this doesn’t break the concept. Another cool thing is how it continues to use the wind directional at the top and how you can tell the top is aging.

This is outside of a shop downtown and has an excellent example of typography. The font used on the sign leads one to believe that there are fancy items in this store..And once in the store, you would realize the the name/font would not steer you wrong!

I found this image on the fire hydrant to be an example of minimalism. I think that the addition of the face really gives the hydrant character. I bet the person that drew this didn’t even know they were creating an interesting piece of art!

This one is my favorite of all my photos. I think it really shows the element of proportion. You can tell the depth of the picture and there is a lot of different textures going on that prevent this photo from being bland! I also thought it was cool because there was a girl down the alley also taking pictures…and she’s probably a better photographer than I, so I must have been doing something right!
