Exploring Any Given Sunday

Vewwyy Intawesting (in Bugs Bunny voice)

Because this was a movie about professional football, the NFL tried to prevent any professional football players from taking part in it. However, Terrell Owens is taped scoring some touchdowns for the Miami franchise wearing his namesake on his jersey, just with a different number. (Source: IMDB)

The screenplay was partly based on the book You’re Okay, It’s Just a Bruise: A Doctor’s Sideline Secrets by Robert Huizenga. Huizenga was an intern doctor for the Raiders football team in the 80′s under Dr. Rosenfield. Rosenfield dismissed many injuries with the phrase that became the title of the book and some examples of his mistakes were highlighted in the movie. (Source: Wiki)

Originally cast for the star role as Willie Beaman, the third string quarterback that rises to occasion, was Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. However, he later dropped the role because rumors were circulating about him being unable to throw a football well…. Lol (Source: Wiki)

Genre!

I believe Any Given Sunday fits into two genres: Drama and Sport. It fits into drama because it deals with people’s lives and the personal struggles and obstacles they face. For instance, the main character, Willie Beaman, is now the first string quarterback and must play his best for his team. He’s ridden the bench for years, and now must overcome this mental wall and play his game for his team. It also fits into sport because the movie is based around football. The plot focuses on the players, coaches, and their lives that intertwine with practices, games, and everything that comes with the sport.

Montage

For the next part of exploring this great movie, we had to choose a YouTube video of a couple scenes from our selected movie. I chose to use one video and take two different portions from the video from mine. By using MPEG StreamClip, I trimmed two clips from the Any Given Sunday video I chose and combined them together into one clip. I was able to do this using our professor’s super awesome and simple tutorial! Those are always so so helpful! Check out the final montage:
