Week 10 involved exploring videos. I am a huge fan of movies and find it very interesting to look into the production what is involved in creating such fantastic films. I am also looking forward to making my own videos and re-creating some of the classics.
- To prepare for the weeks of video fun to come I did a separate post organizing my tools that I will need to accomplish these assignments. I have Windows Movie Maker and also downloaded MPEG streamclip.
- I chose a clip from the Pursuit of Happyness to to do the 3 time review. It was amazing what camera angles and production ideas you could find when you knew what you were looking for (and not just watching the movie). It was also helpful to cut off all other senses so you could really focus on one thing at a time.
- As I pursued other information on the film I came across many facts about the making of the movie. I describe them here. It was really interesting since the film is based off of Chris Gardner’s life. It was also interesting to see that techniques that I described before are still carried on throughout the movie. I found two other clips to prove this!
- The Pre-productions for videos will be very helpful in the future. I now have an idea of what is to come and things I need to do them. I have also already compiled the audio and video files to complete these assignments. The first assignment, Return to the Silent Era, I chose because Silent movies are awesome. They were the true start to film making. It would be really interesting to turn a modern day film (Finding Neemo) into a silent movie. It is moving backwards, but when backwards is sometimes much cooler it’s ok! The second assignment, Opening Credits Redux, could be challenging but very interesting at the same time. I am working with one of my favorite TV shows and am very excited about it.
- The daily creates this week were in the back of my head this week. I was mainly focusing on the preparations for my videos and just getting background information in film making. However, I still feel I accomplished some pretty good daily creates.
The first daily create was of something that is of Hurricane Sandy. I thought about a picture of the actual storm or damages, but I couldn’t imagine what our “storm” must look like compared to the catastrophes in New York and New Jersey. Instead of showing what is in Virginia compared to there, I decided to take a picture of storm preparations. My roommates and I wanted to be very prepared for the storm and compiled whatever we could get together to help.
The second daily create was a picture of something making it look smaller or larger than it actually is. I played around with this one for a while trying to get the perfect angle. The turtle is actually a thumb drive and really is no bigger than my thumb. However, due to how close the picture is he looks huge!
