Remixin’ an Old Assignment

So for one of our assignments this week, we had to go to the remixer site for ds106 and click on the blender on that site. This used a past assignment and remixed it in a certain way. You could keep reclicking the blender if you wanted until you got an assignment that you thought was doable or something that you were interested in. On my first click, I got a great one! The original assignment was to make a YouTube Duet by finding two songs that go together, preferrably from different generations, genres, etc., and playing them together so that it sounds good. The remix part of this assignment was do the opposite of whatever the assignment was saying to do.

So for this duet, I decided to also make it a duet but instead to find two songs that didn’t go together well at all. My first thought was to choose a heavy metal or rock song and then choose a really old school country song, with a very bluesy feel to it. I think these two genres generally crash together in reality so I thought this would be the perfect thing to try. So I Google’d “popular rock songs” and recognized a few. I decided to go with “Johnny B. Goode” by Chuck Berry just because I’ve always liked the song. It’s kind of upbeat so I thought I would try to go with a very twangy, low key country song. As I found myself trying to think of country songs that wouldn’t go at all with this Chuck Berry song, in my head I started singing “Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts. I don’t know why or how that happened but it just popped into my head and that’s the second song I ended up using! So here goes my Opposer YouTube Duet, with 2 songs that I think sound pretty bad together:

Chuck Berry – Johnny B. Goode vs. Summer Breeze – Seals & Croft #1 Hit(1972) | YouTube Doubler | Mashup Helper.
