Once Upon a Storytelling Time…

What is storytelling? That is the million dollar question in this class. Like any normal princess would say, it’s the fairy tale. But how can fairy tales be portrayed to us? They are just the simple stories that we used to read at bedtime, but every bedtime story has to have pictures. Pictures are so great for storytelling because it gives room for interpretation. Looking at a picture, almost everyone will come up with a different story behind it. Another way that we see fairy tales is through video. Watching a fairy tale come to life is a great way for storytelling. And probably my favorite form of storytelling is by word of mouth. As you can probably tell by this blog, I love to talk, so in person I can always tell stories and embellish them the way that I so desire. Finally, you can hear a story. Close your eyes and what do you hear? You can easily make a story about it. The world is constantly a blank canvas, and there are stories all around.

So now that I reflected on storytelling, the digital part is brought up. How does this effect the world of storytelling? Well for starters this blog is an aspect that has changed in itself. Any number of people can be reading my ramblings right now and can be getting any kind of story from it. The world of storytelling is so much more accessible with current technology. Instead of watching a video we can make a video, instead of looking at a picture why not take the picture? The possibilities are endless and that’s why the digital storytelling world not only keeps revolving, but is taking the world by storm. Don’t believe me? Look at pinterest alone. This website has turned into a world wide phenomenon and it can tell people so many different things from how to make a craft, to jokes, to design ideas for their home. Something as simple as one pin can tell a story, and that is what the digital storytelling era means to me.
