Adventures with Ghost: Cats

Now, Ghost, whenever The Fandom Princess had class with Professor Greenwich who disliked dogs, would sometimes wander around the castle and search for things to amuse himself. All the students, professors, and subjects in the town knew who Ghost belonged to and would treat him like royalty as well. He was normally graced with a treat or a belly rub, and then would faithfully return to the Princess when she called.

One of the things that Ghost loved to do was chase the cats that liked to stroll around near the castle pavilion. Watching Ghost chase cats amused the Princess so much one day that she decided to go look in the east wing library for books on cats. She found one in particular called Cat’s Cradle, written by someone known as Kurt Vonnegut. Intrigued, she read it and her eyes were opened to the world he had created successfully:So, I decided for this way cool assignment that I would analyze Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games book (just because a lot of drama happens in that book and I’m pretty obsessed with it). Now, I could go on and on and on about the ups and downs that go on in this book, but since that may bore some people to tears, I have decided to hit the major plot points, and have them highlighted on my graph. Tada!

So, here we go:

  • Katniss Everdeen and her family live in District 12, which is pretty much proverty central, sad to say, so they’re already pretty low in the dumps.
  • Her sister’s name randomly gets pulled to compete in The Hunger Games (really brutal fight to the death in an arena sort of deal – and with kids! Gah!), she volunteers to go in her place.
  • Along for the ride with Katniss is Peeta, the love interest, so we’re gonna raise that bar a little higher, because the idea is getting more stimulating and, well, the two are no longer in District 12 anymore and heading for the Capitol.
  • Get to the Capitol, and even though they’re still going to be in an arena in a few days, Katniss sort of makes a friend with her stylist Cinna (so we raise that even more) and she is learning survival techniques, and has a way awesome score for her ranking, so her odds are looking a little better for the Games. (And she gets to eat some wicked good food that she normally wouldn’t get back at home.)
  • But then the Games start, but Katniss survives the slaughter of the day, so we incline to account for that. A few days pass and she’s still good, so her status just kind of stays good for now.
  • But then the Gamemakers target her, and she gets hurt, then she thinks Peeta is working with everyone to kill her (not true) so Katniss kind of goes through a weird rocky up and down thing until she is finally reunited with Peeta.
  • She and Peeta talk and kiss and it’s so cute because I love them so much, so that’s good, but then the competition gets worse, and so decrease there, and they have to take on one of the toughest competitors ever.
  • They succeed, and although they’re both emotionally damaged, they make it home safely, and continue on.

So yeah, that’s the abbreviated version of The Hunger Games. I loved Vonnegut’s chart and video about this whole idea. It was pretty simple to grasp, but his commentary was way fun to listen to!
