Yes that is right, I have finally watched the Kurt Vonnegut video and I was very surprised with what I saw. I postponed watching this because honestly I thought it’d just be another person rambling on, but I wasn’t expecting to be thoroughly entertained. At first the educated princess inside of me started to think about what those curves were (I came to the conclusion that they were the sine and cosine curves), so I needed to watch the movie again and not get distracted by the math major that I am.  I enjoyed the mockery of all of it, until he started talking about my girl Cinderella. Cindy and I go way back, and I was offended that he would be so bored by such a touching story. But then that made me realize, not everyone has the same taste in stories. I love fairy tales and all the sappy love story things, but don’t get me wrong I do love a great thriller as well. This video made me realize that I have to be engaging to all audiences and try to capture more people into the ds106 community.

Trying to analyze one of my favorite Disney Princess movies I decided to analyze The Princess and the Frog. *Spoiler alert: The description below will ruin the movie if you haven’t seen it before, so I suggest you watch it!*So why did I choose these certain lines? Well for starters, being a Princess myself, I have a lot of sympathy for those who have gone before me, so you may disagree with what I say, but that’s okay.

First of all Tiana’s dad dies in the war, so she starts to go down. Her and her mother are struggling financially, but she still manages to maintain a good attitude about all the work she has. She goes to work at a ball and finds out her dreams of owning a restaurant and crushed and she turns into a frog (the sudden drop down). There is a little hump because she meets new friends at the Bayou and even gets to sing a song or two. While on the quest for Mama Odie (who can reverse the spell), Naaveen (the prince who is also a frog) and Tiana start to get feelings for each other and Tiana now learns how to dance so she spikes up a little bit. Suddenly, Naaveen gets kidnapped by the Shadow Man so back down she goes. Mama Odie suddenly pops out of nowhere and saves Naaveen so Tiana and him are excited that they get to become humans again, and they sing yet another song. However, Mama Odie tells them that they have to find a princess to break the spell and sends them back on their journey home. Tiana and Naaveen are coming to terms with being frogs when suddenly they get separated and Tiana sees Naaveen as a human again (expect it’s really an imposter!) Her world is now completely crushed but suddenly they realize that Tiana’s best human friend is the Mardi Gras princess for the day, so she can break the spell. They meet Charlotte in time and she agrees to kiss Naaveen (this is the first time that she reaches above the average). However, the clock had already struck midnight and the spell cannot be broken, and then they find out that their friend Ray has died trying to save them (in which the audience starts to cry hysterically). Once again, they start to accept their fate as frogs, but realize that their love for each other will conquer all (like all stories). So they get married as frogs (above the curve once again) and they both turn into humans (infinite happiness). Tiana now is a princess after marrying the prince and they open her dream restaurant and clearly live happily ever after.

I made this chart by using Paint once again. It seems to be my favorite tool to use. I mainly just used lines. I was going to try to curve the lines with the curving tools, but it turned out not looking at good as I thought it would. Plus I think that the dramatic turn of emotions really helps tell the story. The reason she is always below the curve is because she is a frog for almost the whole movie and she is slimy with mucus (a joke which comes up a few times in the movie). If you haven’t seen The Princess and the Frog, I suggest you do. It’s a new Disney Classic!

Onto bigger and better things, we also were asked to find a digital story in the world. I decided to pick out Pinterest. Similar to what I said in my reflection post on what digital storytelling is, I mentioned how Pinterest really can be just that. After all, it is a series of pictures used to describe what someone make like or have. So I decided to look at my sister’s “pinned board”. My sister is getting married at the end of this semester and I could not be any more excited for it. Guess on what the colors are anyone??
