Key Points from Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad-

I found both of these talks incredibly interesting.  Some of the key points that I pulled out of Ira Glass’s series were where do you start with a story, the importance of good bait, finding a good story, and that sometimes you just have to get lucky.  I went into more details on these ideas here. From Jad Abumrad’s talk I found the ideas that the coolest thing about radio is what it lacks and radio gives you a connection that TV doesn’t super interesting.  You can read more about what I thought here.

Radio Story Summary-

The radio story that I summarized was dopplegangers by This American Life. Overall, I found this story to be very well told and super interesting.  I loved how they used different audio interviews and put them together to support and tell their story.  I did find it a bit long, but I learned a lot about audio storytelling from it.  Here is my further review here.

DS106 Listening Experience-

This week I tuned into ds106 radio and got anything but what I had expected.  I thought that I would get to listen to some music (and maybe hear some bumpers) but instead I ended up hearing a story.  I had missed a good about of the beginning of it so I was kind of lost, but I talked more about my experience here.

Audio Assignments-

  • ds106 radio bumper

My radio bumper was the thing I was the most worried about making this week.  I am not sure why I was so concerned about it because when I finally ended up making it wasn’t near as bad as I had thought it might be.  Here is my post about the whole process.

  • Five sound story

I really enjoyed making this five sound story.  I was shocked with how easy it was for me to do.  I decided to do my story on a little girl arriving to Disney World for the first time.  Here is a link to my story!

Daily Creates-

This week we had to do three daily creates.  Here are my three from the week. sand

These daily creates are further explained here.

Group Feedback-

Once again this week I really enjoyed looking at my groups blogs.  I love looking at my groups blogs and seeing what kind of ideas that they came up with for all their assignments.  I found it kind of difficult to come up with ideas for this weeks assignments, so looking at them for inspiration was fantastic.  I found looking at their ideas to be invaluable in helping me come up with my own ideas.  I also continued to get some encouraging words from my group members this week.  I am really glad that we started commenting and keeping up with each others blogs.  I also am thrilled to be in group that I am in.

Weekly Feedback-

This week I learned that audio wasn’t quite as stressful as I had expected it to be.  I put off a lot of my work this week because I was worried about being able to do it.  Once I came up with ideas, which was honestly the hardest part, I realized that it wasn’t too bad.  I understood how to work everything and had a lot of fun playing around with effects on my audio.  I am interested in seeing what we’ve got ahead of us next week. See y’all then!
