Many people have different views on how storytelling is and how stories should be told, but they all have at least something in common. When I listened to Ira Glass’ Series on storytelling (Part 1 and Part 2), he mentioned a lot of interesting point like about how all stories have building blocks which are totally different between high school stories and broadcasting. For example during high school your teachers told you that you must start with a topic sentence but during broadcasting that’s not needed as long as you get your point across. I like when he said that it frustrates him and a lot of people when a story does not have a point. I must agree with that I think there must be something you learn from this because if not what is the point of writing it. During the second part the main thing that he is talking about is about how it takes along time to actually thing about the story and the topic. The best line that sums up this whole part is when he said “If your not failing all the time you are not creating a situation where you can get super lucky.”I think this can apply to a lot of things too don’t you?
As I was watching Jad Abumrad on “How Radio Creates Empathy” I understood what he was talking about I feel like he was trying to say that radio is something that you do together, a partnership between the radio person and yourself. When he was talking about describing words since radio is a pictureless form of entertainment/storytelling I think that the listener finishes the rest of the story as becoming an illustrator in their minds. I think that people think radio is dying because they have not heard good radio before. I do not think that radio is going to die anytime soon.
