The Evil Gym of Salisbury

At first I had very little inspiration for the daily creates this week. I’m not sure what exactly was stopping me, but I just wasn’t feeling it as much as a usually do. But, while looking back at the daily creates from the week I realized that I could do Tuesday’s Daily Create which involved drawing a place of somewhere you have been and wish to never go back to again. The problem when I first read this on Tuesday was I was in a good mood, but today not so much. Sure you may be thinking it’s because it’s Valentine’s day, but today I just am feeling sassy (those days come and go). So, when I was brought back to this challenge I immediately knew where I never wanted to go again, Salisbury University.

It seems this week more than ever I am talking about my volleyball career at Mary Washington (you can see my tribute to Mary Washington’s older gym here). Salisbury University has always been our adversaries and rivals, they are without a doubt the full time villain, and traveling to their gym has always seemed to bring me unfortunate luck. Maybe it was the 3 and a half hour drive to the dreaded gym or the fact that there was no air conditioning, but at the end of the day I  hated Salisbury. The first time I entered the gym was my freshman year and I instantly was sweating like crazy, it was one of our first losses of the season and of my career. The next time that I returned was my junior year where we faced them in the semifinals of the conference tournament and I left in crutches. I ended up with a grade 3 sprain to my ankle, which two weeks later I decorated with a lovely temporary tattoo

Wanting to avenge my junior year, I returned again for my last year at a tournament with three very strong teams. After a long weekend of playing (I had a groin and knee injury at this point of the season) we were in the last game and I reached back to hit a ball, and I ended up spraining my shoulder. Shoulder injuries are never good for a volleyball player. Needless to say, I really hate that gym. So once again, I had to face the evilness that is the Salisbury gym again when at the semifinals for the conference tournament again. It was here that is was do or die. If we won then we moved on to the finals, and if we lost then my whole career was over. Let me tell you, I did not want to end my whole career to Salisbury. To make the longest of stories short, we ended up losing. So there it was, the end of my four years. Now I faced a whole new challenge, who am I outside of sports? And that’s what this semester is for.

Therefore, those are the main reasons I never want to go back to Salisbury, but another reason I would never want to go there again is because as a way to show Salisbury how I feel I ended up putting the ankle brace I used for a year (on my bad ankle that I sprained my ankle there) in the ceiling tiles of the locker room. 10467_512458482097557_2145044220_n

So while they may have won the game and most of the battles, I think I won the war.

Now to the actual assignment at hand, I have pretty much zero artistic ability, so I decided to draw this using the Doodle app on my iPad mini. I was basing my photo on this picture and ended up with this masterpiece.
