Group Comments

Although I have a new group this week, the members essentially stayed the same with the exception of one. Fairuz shared the same liking for the photo blitzing assignment that I had. She had some great pictures, especially that elephant shadow photograph; check it out. Casey did a fantastic job with her Valentine’s day assignment, I was really impressed and had a good laugh. Lara did a visual assignment that called for sketches of the photographs she took. She used a variety of flower photos and set them to ‘pencil sketch’ using Picasa. Cole has a variety of cool photos from the visual assignments bank. As this was my first time viewing his blog, I especially liked his Super Mario Bros. theme.

Suggestions For Photography

The 3 Most Valuable Photography Tips

This activity was the reason for such a growth of skills this week. There were several helpful tips that I read other than the 3 most valuable, however I had to narrow down to three.

Photoblitz

Photoblitzin’

As I stated in the post, this activity was a lot of fun. It definitely expanded your mind to see things out of the box and try to make interesting photos out of everyday objects.

Flickr Flare-up

Flickr Flow

Embedding a flickr set in wordpress was a synch with the flickr set slideshows plugin.

Daily Creates

Recap

I tried to take the newly acquired photography knowledge and apply them to my daily creates this week. One of the most evident tips I used was to change my perspective by finding unique points of view.

Visual Assignments

V-Day Challenge **

Buddy Photo Assignment **

Newspaper Blackout ***

A Change of Emotion ***

Here are the four visual assignments I chose to attack this week. I had lots of fun with most of them, and got a bit frustrated with one in particular.

Summary

Overall, I think this week produced the greatest growth in artistic skills. While I had a basic understanding of photography previously, the lessons from this week greatly enhanced my skills. Knowledge of the rule of thirds is something that I will use for the rest of my life, especially now that I have the grid setting on my phone. Some of the activities from this week were a bit frustrating at times, particularly the Newspaper Blackout. The majority of the assignments from this week I was satisfied with, however that particular assignment was so frustrating that I ended up settling with a mediocre result.
