Move and Shake

Sometimes when the moon was half-full and the night was warm with a light breeze, the Fandom Princess and a few of her friends would leave the castle late in the evening and venture into the forest. There, the smells of sweets, the sounds of a flute, harp, and laughing would fill the air. The group of pupils from the castle would join the elves, centaurs, sphinx, and other fantastical creatures in the occasional dancing festivity. The music would be light, jolly, and fast-paced, enough to keep everyone happy and having a fun time. It was nights like these where the Fandom Princess wished she could do nothing but dance the night away with all her lovely fandoms and friends around her, all engaging with one another in utter harmony.

For this Design Assignment, called Venn Pop Culture, we had to create a Venn Diagram. Sounds easy, right? WRONG. So. Wrong. Seriously, this one needed to be a good 4 stars, because it is a lot harder to design a venn diagram that I ever remembered. Probably because in school the teachers had already made them for us, but this was challenging! I don’t know if it’s because it’s late at night and I’m really tired, but I was having such a hard time trying to come up with topics for my Venn Diagram.

Grease Lightning Venn Diagram

Then, like a lightbulb, it hit me. Why not do it on movies, a true love of mine?! The topics kind of are broad (which yes, I did on purpose. I told you this was a hard assignment!) and I was able to think of movies in my own library that could fit each category. An important theme in Cinderella is the scene in which she is dancing and singing with Prince Charming. Footloose involves a bunch of dancing and acting, but not too much singing! Across the Universe, one of my favorite movies, involves acting and singing classic Beatles songs. (Here’s a clip of a scene that is absolutely beautiful from that movie. See if you know the song!) It just made it more perfect that Grease turned out to be the moving involving all three topics. Such a wonderful movie! I used the SmartArt Graphic in Powerpoint to create the diagram and then just changed the color until I was satisfied with the overall look.
