Six Blue Roses

Once, when the Fandom Princess was in her second year at Mercury, she was given six little blue flower seeds by her Herbology professor. The professor, who was known throughout the land as having a green thumb (she quite literally did have a green thumb on her left hand) told the young Princess to go out into the garden and plant the seeds right on the bank of the lake, close to the smallest apple tree. The Princess did as she was told, with a young Ghost following her out and watching her with curiosity. As soon as the seeds were planted, the Princess noticed small, gold flecks floating down from the leaves of the small apple tree and landing on the fresh soiled earth that the Princess had just finished moving. Three weeks later, she was venturing back out with her friend, Todd, and to both their surprises, the area was inhabited with six extraordinary blue roses. She immediately ran back to her Herbology professor to tell her the news, and the professor merely smiled. “Now, don’t touch them, my dear. Those six roses must always be a sign for you that even though life will be filled with horrible, unearthly weeds, there will always be something strange, extraordinary and beautiful to combat against those dreadful weeds.” From that day forth, the Princess would make random trips to that bank, underneath the apple tree that would never grow, and tend to the blue roses, knowing that they indeed were something special.

So, that cute little story was just the premise for this lovely Design Assignment, the wonderful Six-Word Memoir! Ironically, for my creative writing seminar this semester, we had to create our own six-word memoir, based off the Earnest Hemingway six-word memoir for inspiration (For sale: Baby shoes, never worn). I decided not to use the one I did for class, but I created a whole new one! And here it is:

Weeds and Flowers Six-Word Memoir

Now, my process for this was pretty backwards. I knew that I wanted to use this app called Paper that’s on my iPad to design the picture for the memoir. I also knew that I wanted to use a flower. My next problem was trying to come up with what exactly the memoir or the deeper meaning behind the flower would be.

I finally settled on the phase “Even among weeds, there are flowers.” From there, I designed on my iPad (SO COOL) the picture that I thought would emphasis the meaning. It’s a colorful flower surrounded by a plethora of weeds. I like the concept because it serves as a reminder for people that no matter how many ugly and horrible things that happen in life, there will always be crazy, colorful flowers that randomly pop up in your life to make you forget about the evil, nasty things. After I finished the design, I used Pixlr to add the caption and to put a light border around the edges!

Hope you all liked it!
