Okay, so this was pretty tough. For this assignment, we had to make sounds to the video below:
Since I was born in February, I had to do the sounds from 0:30 to 1:00. It was tough doing it in one take, but after several attempts, I got it! Here’s my finished result:
Yeah, yeah, it’s a little over 30 seconds, but the first five seconds are just me getting the video started to the right place. Sorry I don’t have like 4 hands!
Anywho, here’s a run-down of the things I used (well, the ones that ended up being audible):
- Blanket for the handkerchief waving part
- My foot on a creaky section of my floor for the guy’s footsteps
- My desk drawer for the door sliding open and closing
- Your’s truly for the tiger growling and the lion snoring
- A cooking sheet for the thing the guy knocks over
So, I’m not going to lie, I didn’t think this assignment was going to be so hard! I was using the Soundcloud app on my phone to record it. At first, I had a tough time making the sounds loud enough for my phone to catch it. Even in the final version I turned in, there were still some sounds that my phone didn’t get, like the sound of the lion’s tail (I tried using my hair in a ponytail brushing against the phone… Didn’t work haha). Another issue was actually due to my location. For the footsteps part, I really wanted to do actual footsteps instead of the floor squeaking, but my apartment is fully carpeted. So I had to settle for trying to find an area of my room that squeaked (which was kinda hard to find surprisingly… of course the floor doesn’t squeak when I want it to).
Besides those minor things, I don’t think my final product turned out too badly. Let me know what you guys think!
