ds106 Video Assignment Ideas

Making videos scare me. No, I’m being serious. That’s because unlike hearing a person through an audio clip or looking at someone through a picture, there’s nothing that’s left unknown in a video. You can see what they look like, you can hear them, heck, you can even pick out their nervous habits. You’re more vulnerable through a video! Despite my fear, after looking through the video assignments bank, I found a couple of interesting assignments I’m not really intimidated by. Here are the ones I think I’m going to do/how I’m thinking of approaching them:

Viral Video Re-Enactment

I think it’s really cool when videos go viral. It just shows that although a lot of people are different, we all somehow have some kind of similar interest. So, I decided to tackle this assignment. At first I was thinking about doing a Harlem Shake, but then I thought that was a little overplayed. So I looked through the videos I liked on my Youtube Account, and came across this oldie, but goodie:

Anyone remember this? They also did a cover for a Jessica Simpson song, but in my opinion, the Backstreet Boys one was soo much better.

Anyways, yes, I am planning on reenacting this video. After reading the instructions, I feel as if I have to try to recreate the video to the tee, which means I should do the same song, and record it the same way the guys did (in one take, through a crappy built-in web cam, wearing matching clothes). All I really need is a partner. I’ll be holding auditions if anyone’s interested!

Surprisingly, only one other person has completed this assignment, so I don’t have a lot to base mine on.

What Do Your Pets Think?

Okay, so I don’t have a pet. I have a baby son, does that count? I thought this would be a cool assignment to do because my son is about to be 4 months old, and he’s in that “coo at everything” phase. Since he can’t talk, it’s kinda difficult for me to see what he wants (is he hungry? just tired? wants to be held? IDK!)

But yeah, if I do decide to go with this assignment, I would like to take videos of my son (obviously) and set it to one song in the background. Then add in my voice to depict what I think he’s thinking. I got the idea from watching this movie called “Baby and Me” on Netflix. During scenes that include the baby, it has an old man’s voice talking (which is supposed to be the baby’s inner dialogue. It’s really funny during some parts!) Here’s the trailer to the movie:

They don’t really include a lot of the scenes where the baby’s thinking (and in the trailer, they didn’t include subtitles for what he said!), but if you listen carefully, you’ll definitely hear him!

Overall, I think doing video assignments is probably going to be extremely tough for me. But I mean, I gotta do what I gotta do. Pray for me next week!
