Can you believe we’re almost done with the semester? I had to double-check my calendar because I feel like time flew by so quickly! Anyways, for my final project, I had trouble deciding which character I wanted to base my work around. I thought long and hard, flipped a few coins, and finally decided to go with my gut instinct. Want to know who I picked?

Yep, it’s Mulan! She is by far my favourite Disney character/heroine, so in hindsight, she was the obvious choice.

For this project, I want my work to add another dimension and depth to the movie plot as well as act as a continuation and expand the world of Mulan. I know that sounds confusing, but here are the components I will be working on for my final project:

Visual Design

Okay, so I think the first thing I should do is make a movie poster about Mulan. I found two different design assignment options, and since I wasn’t sure which one to do, I thought I would include both here so I will have options when I’m working on my project. The first one is the infamous “Animated Movie Posters” assignment. I say infamous because I tried this assignment before, got extremely frustrated with it, and cursed at my computer screen for several minutes before finally giving up and going to the next assignment. Yeah. I think this is kind of a redemption moment for me to try and do this, but we shall see…

The other is the “If Movie Posters Told the Truth” assignment. I remember asking for help on how to do this way back when during our ds106 Google Hangout (wow, that seems so long ago!) but never really got how to do it. So I thought, “Hey, why not give this a go!”

So, I think one of the first things I would do with Mulan would be to bring her to the 21st century via social media. To do so, I will be doing this assignment, which requires making a fake Facebook profile and Twitter tweet for Mulan. I’m super excited about this portion just because I am really interested in social media itself (for peeps’ sakes, I’m taking a course on it at Mary Wash!)

Video

I did this assignment called “Where are they now?” last week, and I had so much fun with it. So, I would love to do it again except for the characters of Mulan. This portion would definitely act as an expansion of the Mulan world, since it goes beyond the movie plot (I’m not counting Mulan 2 because that sequel was a huge vomit fest).

Also, in case I go in a different direction and want another video assignment option, I think I would tackle this video assignment called “Animated Music Video.” Although I’m not a huge fan of fanfic-ish music videos, I think it would be challenging to try and make one about Mulan’s kickass-ness with some cool upbeat music.

So yep, there are the assignments that I plan on tackling for my final project. Although, I might just end up doing none of them and going in a different direction since I have so many ideas/assignments I want to do; but I think it’s useful that I got to do this blog post so I could start thinking about them. Would it be bad if I don’t end up doing any of the assignments I listed out?
