Video # 2

As you can see my second video is a music video for the song “Castles Made of Sand” by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. After reviewing the DS106 assignment bank I decided I wanted to make a music video for a song by using videos related to the lyrics. My first instinct was to pair Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire” with the movie trailer for Backdraft. This lead me to “Castles Made of Sand” and I thought it would be a good idea to pair the song with stop motion videos of the construction of sandcastles. I used three videos: a stop motion castle construction, a slow motion castle explosion, and a stop motion for the ending. I converted the videos to MP4 and imported them to iMovie. Once I had iMovie set up I was able to sync the clips along with the music and put the music video together.

This song presents the idea that good things may eventually come to an end. Not all dreams come true however it is important to keep putting in the hard work to try and make them a reality. With this video I wanted to contrast the hard work and patience invested in building a sand sculpture with the idea that it could fall apart at any moment. This works out nicely as the fast paced stop motion creation is contrasted with the slow motion destruction. This man is building an incredible sand sculpture while there are other masterpieces exploding around him. The failure of other sculptures doesn’t discourage him as he focuses on his own project. The idea I wanted to convey is that it is important to follow your dreams even when the danger of failing is present, as sometimes you may be the last castle standing.
