So welcome to my tutorial for this amazing assignment on how I made my musical tag. Since the story of the project was really long I decided to break it up, so you can read the story part over here.

For starters the first thing you need to do is plan plan plan plan! Planning the whole process will really help you.

Here were some questions that I asked myself

• Do I want to do a certain genre?
• Do I want to do a certain artist?
• What is the theme of my work?
• What story do I want to tell?

I decided to do Sara Bareilles and tell a break up story. So the next step was to look up the lyrics to songs.  Try to do songs that you are familiar with, it will help you so much more.

I copied and pasted the lyrics that I wanted into Microsoft word, just so I could keep track of everything. When planning this, aware of the lengths of the clips that you are listening to. Make sure that you have at least a verse or a chorus or both when it comes to the project. It will help to tell your story a bit better.

I found the YouTube videos of the songs that I wanted and I tried to find them on the artist’s account (usually associated with Vev0). Listen to the song before you do anything else! You need to make sure that the quality of the audio is good, if it is a live recording or has a lot of background noise you do not want to select that. Once you select a video, use the Fastest YouTube Downloader to transfer the file into an mp3.

I created this final product in Audacity, which is a great tool to use one you get used to all of the different features of the program. Here are the steps I took:

1. I imported the first song that I wanted to do into the program:

2.  Find the part of the song that you want to start at.

• If it is at the beginning, then move onto the next step.
• If it is not at the beginning of the song, then pause where you want to start and use the select tool to select the portion you want to delete. Then hit the DEL key on your keyboard. If this does not work, hit the stop button then the DEL key again.

3. Go to the second part of the song and using the same technique, delete the part of the song that you don’t want to use. For a tip, really take your time to make sure that you are cutting out the right words. Use the zoom tool to get as close to the words as possible, which will make your transitions much easier.

4. Import your next song, just like you did in step 1. To prevent multiple songs playing at the same time, click the solo button so only that track will play, and cut it accordingly like in steps 2 and 3.

5. Once you are done cutting, use the Time Shift Tool in order to move your track, it will attach to the tracks near it, which is nice. Make sure you click the solo button again to allow all tracks to play again!

6. Repeat this process until you have your final product.

7. Export the file to be a mp3 so that you can share, and upload onto SoundCloud!
