Radio Show Reflection-

First off, making this radio show was a much larger project that I would have expected it to be.  I had an idea going in that it would take just a few hours and wold be great.  Looking back I now know that was totally wrong.

We first started off by our group, the Fab Five, meeting about two weeks before spring break to decided on exactly what kind of show we wanted to do.  We decided that it was better to meet in person for our first time instead of trying to do it via email or any other online source   I am personally thrilled that we decided to do it this way because deciding how we wanted to do this assignment was much more intensive than any of us originally had thought.  We threw around a lot of ideas but finally decided to do the ds106 assignment celebrity radio interview to base our show.  We decided we were going to interview Taylor Swift and a couple of her ex-boyfriends to see if we could figure out who here latest single would be about.  We then picked who would do which interview and ended our meeting.  You can read all about our first meeting in more detail in our initial blog post.

After talking through our topic a bit more and getting some feed back, we edited our ideas a bit and started to figure out exactly what each of us needed to do to make our radio show happen.  On the Monday before spring break Kaitlyn and I made a full outline of our radio show and sent it out.  This outline included a exactly what each of us should record and a sample script for the show.  While making this outline we realized that we hadn’t assigned anyone to make things like the introduction and conclusion of the show.  Everyone went ahead and looked over the outline and after a few edits we were ready to go and start recording.

Organization of the Show:

  • Each of us did one interview based on the celebrity radio show assignment mentioned above.  Kelsie did Taylor Swift, Kaitlyn did Taylor Lautner, Sarah did John Mayer, and Brooke did T-Pain. We tried to get each interview to be around 2-2:30 minutes.
  • Each of us did an introduction for another persons interview.  Since Kaitlyn and I recorded together (because we had to get our work done early since we were going to be out of town during spring break) we decided to introduce on another sections. This we just a short little clip to let everyone know what was coming up next.
  • Kaitlyn and I also did the introduction for our show.  This was basically just a two minute clip to introduce both our show and the segment that we would be doing on it.
  • Kelsie did the conclusion of the show.
  • Brooke was nice enough to put everything that we had all done together to make our final show.  Since Kaitlyn and I were gone for all of spring break, there was no way that all of us could get together and put it together unless we did it before spring break (which we quickly decided against).  Kailtyn and I uploaded our parts to soundcloud before spring break started and everyone else uploaded during that week.  Once everything was up Brooke put it all together to make our final project.

I was very pleased with everything that I did for this assignment.  As I had expressed in the past, audio was not even close to my favorite media that we had done.  This week I recorded A TON of audio and I was pretty proud with how it came out.  The very first time I recorded myself I freaked out and absolutely hated it!  After doing this I can honestly say that I don’t hate it any more (not that I love it by any means).

Overall working with my group was a great experience.  Everyone in our group was pleasant to work with and did a great job with their part of the project.   I really appreciated how everyone was on top of their work and easy to get a hold of.  Working with a group that has bad communication is one of the worst things that could happen.  I was thrilled that this group was so responsive. The hardest part of working with a group was just making decisions.  There were so many things that we got to decide one for this project, so having five peoples opinions made it hard.  Once we finally made decisions everything else was smooth sailing.

I feel like as a whole our show flows really well.  I got a chance to listen to it after spring break and I am thrilled it how it all turned out.  I feel like we all were pleased with how the show turned out and it totally exceeded our expectations   I really hope that everyone else likes it as much as we do!

Audio Refection-

Looking back on audio week, I can honestly say it wasn’t as terrible as I had expected it to be.  After we did audio last time, I was anything but thrilled that we were going to be going at it again.  Now that I have gotten a lot more experience I am at the point where audio isn’t terrible.  I think that if I had to do audio again in the future I wouldn’t mind it, but I certainly wouldn’t be thrilled to see it pop up again.
