The past two weeks included so much to do on remixing and mashing. First of all, what is a remix? I watched some videos and examples of remixes to get a better understanding. Then, in my blog post, I explained to my roommates what a remix was after showing them a clip.
After a very frustrating week of using Popcorn Maker, I switched to Windows Movie Maker to complete a remix video of where to send Alan on vacation. My post explains what I had to add to the video in order to remix it.
A few weeks ago, we had to submit any media we haven’t used this semester, calling it recycled media. This week, I created a short story using the recycled media from all students on a young girls reaction to going to college.
The assignment that took me the most thought this week, was a photo remix of Cory Doctorow. I just couldn’t think of a good enough idea until I read over some of his books. My post talks about why I remixed the photo the way I did.
Using the ds106 remix generator, an old assignment was given a new twist in order to create a remix. My remix included inserting Waldo somewhere in a photo. My blog post describes, in more detail, what the assignment entailed and how I completed it.
On top of all of this, I completed 6 stars worth of mashup/remix assignments. I ended up only needing to do two assignments to reach my 6 stars goal. My first assignment was a movie trailer mashup and my second was to create a video of one colour I see throughout the day.
Overall, I liked remix and mashup week! It involved all the types of media we’ve done so far: video, visual, audio, etc. I felt like we had a lot of free reign when deciding what we wanted to do and there were so many possibilities. Even though I used other people’s work and used it to create something new, I felt like my product was unique and my own.
