What Is a Remix?

I really hate reflection posts. I have no idea why, maybe it’s because we aren’t creating anything fun for me to show off my princess skills for. I guess I just am too proud of my work all of the time. However I did really enjoy the different clips that I watched on what a remix was.

First up on the agenda was watching a reference video on how everything is a remix, and I was surprised by just how much that was true. I guess I never have really paid attention to the very back beats of music before. But then again…who has?

Then it comes to no surprise to you all that I picked the Fair(y) Use Tale as my next reference video, and I LOVED it. It was hard at first to listen to everything that they were saying, but I thought the creator did a great job of repeating things a few times so that way listeners could understand what was going on. It was a really great way to show what is appropriate while explaining what is not appropriate. It gave me a much clearer understanding of the issue behind copyrighting.

After have a pep talk by every Disney character imaginable, I decided to look at some examples of remixes and I came across the Scary Mary version of Mary Poppins, and let me tell you that I was pretty scared with what I was going to get myself into. This really was a great version of telling a story in a whole new perspective, and the music was really was did the trick, it freaked me out!

For a totally more relaxed vibe was the President singing Call Me Maybe, which was very different. I liked how it showed a bunch of different speeches and it was a funny way to sing a very popular song at the time. I’m not going to lie, I watched a few more videos done by the same person to see what else they could do.

Last but not least, my favorite one was the Magic School Bus Remake, when I first clicked on it I thought that it was going to be parts of the cartoon placed in a different order. I had no idea it was going to be humans pretending to be characters and telling a whole different story. It was really awesome! I wanted to go buy the movie, and I even watched an episode of Magic School Bus to refresh my memory on why I fell in love with the show when I was little. That is storytelling at it’s finest if you ask me.

So now it’s my turn. I need to take what I learn and share it with someone else. But who….let’s see for yourself:

Thanks for reading!
