Charles Dickens spoke some profound words that I find myself contemplating over and over again as I venture into the first term of summer school. For some reason unbeknownst to me, I decided to declare a third major my Junior year. There are many things that often make me reconsider this decision( a serious coffee addiction after trying to pull too many all-nighters; an extinct social life; delirium), but summer school probably ranks as the biggest buzz kill.
F’burg ain’t go nothin’ on all of the other places I would love to be… traveling the ruins of Greece, roughing it with family in the Midwest, exploring South Africa with my bestie. Though to my surprise, this historic town has proven to be prettyyyy exciting over the past few days. Between attempted navigation of WordPress and Melchers Hall, and the newly declared monsoon season in the Rappahannock region, summer school is turning into quite an adventure. All of the conversations, lectures and new technology have changed my initial pessimism to excitement for the weeks ahead; and the excitement has reminded me why I decided to go total nerd in the first place.
Though it surely doesn’t compare to a hammock on the Mediterranean, the plastic andirondak chair in my backyard and an Art History textbook will provide a sufficient summer getaway for now.
