When I think of storytelling, I think of when I used to sit on my grandfather’s knee while he told me some old war stories. I remember just sitting there at home and listening as he went on and on, and I never hated it. Storytelling gives me the image of being at a comforting place like home and with the people you love. I can only think of a few ways to describe storytelling to some since it is a bit difficult to put into words unless you are actually storytelling. One way to describe storytelling is listening and imagining the scenario that is being told to you and the other is describing a fictional or nonfictional moment to another person in a way that they can easily follow along and view what is going on with their imagination.
When you add the word “digital” in front of storytelling things changes. At first glance, digital storytelling wouldn’t give you the same feeling as hearing a crazy story from your family member because you will be reading it instead of listening with your own ears. That isn’t a bad thing though. Digital storytelling should open up more possibilities because you would have tools to create and tell stories other than your mouth or a pencil. You can tell the same digital story with a text, a picture, a video, you name it. I would imagine that as technology evolves, so will digital storytelling. The more tools that you have to tell a story, the more you can let one’s imagination run wild.
