Three Star Assignment
Process
I found my new best friend for this project, eyedropper tool. This tool on photoshop allows the user to mimic the color scheme on a certain point of a picture. Once a user has the his/her desired color you can brush over parts of the poster with the exact same color as the background. For this picture I downloaded WWII poster and then I used a spot healing tool as per the advice of my peer, Feng Chen, to erase the original text of bottom portion of the picture. I then selected the top portion of the text using the eyedropper tool I got the exact color used for that text. I then simply used that text color for the text I inserted at the bottom of the picture.
Motivation
Props to Daniel Zimmerman for this great idea. I must say I agree with Groom’s fascination with simplicity in art. Just like remixing the video game covers the more subtle the change can be done the moreĀ provocativeĀ it can be. I feel if we were to take time to dramatically alter several important aspects of a picture it would remove some of the charm of a simple text replacement. Hopefully Groom can comment on this so he can fully articulate why he loves simplicity in art. In terms of what I tried doing with this assignment I once again emphasized the difficulty of this course. This is a 100 level course but the work load is more similar to a 300 level course. Although the difficulty of this course causes a time suck on my daily life it is worth it once I sit down and actually thoughtfully complete these assignments. So the altered message of my WWII poster is meant to be a metaphor of this course. War is difficult so is this class. But the work and effort in War is worth it, just like Digital Storytelling.
