Jackie Robinson was more than just a baseball player. I heard about his life at the Great Lives series and thought it was very interesting. His mother, Mallie Robinson, single-handedly raised Jackie and her four other children. Jackie had a very strong mom to look up to. Jackie excelled early at all sports and learned to make his own way in life. At UCLA, Jackie became the first athlete to win varsity letters in four sports: baseball, basketball, football and track. His brother was in the German Olympics and came in second place behind Jesse Owens. He was not the best player in the negro leagues, but the one who could handle the pressure. He was the strongest mentally. He pioneered the integration of professional athletics in America.

I wanted to dedicate this little poster to him. The two quotes if you can’t read them so clearly are:

A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives.
Jackie Robinson

Above anything else, I hate to lose.
Jackie Robinson
