Web 2.0

The Tim O’Reilly Article on the evolution and definition of Web 2.0 was very interesting to me.  I found it to be understandable for someone like me who has little to no computer knowledge.  This article which we also discussed on class focuses on the central theme of what web 2.0 is.  and how that differs from web 1.0.  Web 2.0 is to put simply a evolving aggregation of person individual input of data to form a data base that looping software feeds off of to improve and diversify itself and the services it provides.  This is in every app we download. we surrender our rights to privacy to be part of an information collecting system geared to advertise to us.  Google is not a search engine, its a platform for interacting with the internet that an advertising company provides to us.  Think about it, Its faster to type into google (as your homepage) as fast as possible “fcbok” or some other terribly mispelled version of facebook and click on the first link then it is to actually type in the sites name.  its even faster then bookmarking it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! google is the internet for my generation.

Brian Alexander’s Talk in class as well as his essay on web 2.0 story telling, is really fantasticly intersting to me.  Breaking down ideas like story to me is an incredibly interesting concept and one that does not ready give an answer or an ending.  I liked his quote about a narrative being queen dies, king dies.  a story being queen dies , king dies of a broken heart.  I thought this was so so cool, because i completely absolutely disagree.

Queen dies, King dies of a broken heart.  this is wrapped up. completed.  there is no question and no calculations to do.  their is no purpose to further investigation, no deeper meaning then what lays in plain text on the page.

Queen dies. King Dies.  – brimming with mystery. did he kill her and then himself , did he die of a broken heart, do all kings die right after their queens. is it in fact impossible for a king to be without his queen.  THIS is a story! the above two sentences are just data.

no great writer starts a chapter with the main thesis of the work along with bullets of literary devices used.

this goes back to the quantum nature of web 2.0 , its like an operator when you operate on something you get back the function and a constant that gives you information about that function.  this is terrific example of the dual nature , the unseparable nature , of web 2.0 being both a specialized database being operated on the give back information without actually transforming the function and the operate or specialized software.
