I think for this assignment I would look at the movie I Spit on Your Grave. It’s apparently a cult classic from the 70s. Admittedly, I only ever saw the 2010 remake (which I was bamboozled into doing so). It was one of the worst movies I had ever seen. And there are some key things to point out wrong with it. There is no depth to the characters. The acting is nothing special, not there is much call for it. The plot is simply acts of violence men inflict on women, and then the retaliatory acts of violence to the men who wronged that woman. And if the story is meant to convey a deeper meaning, it’s told in moronically simply way. It feels more like gratuitous violence and bloodshed to draw out the crowds of people that want to see that on the big screen.
Script (issues with the film):
- There is no depth of characters. It’s a woman, four men, one of which is mentally handicapped.
- It feels like successive acts of violence from the men on the woman and then acts of violence from the woman to the men.
- Any deeper meaning is lost because the story is told in a simple way that is more about the violence.
- It feels like violence for the sake of violence.
