Weekly Summary:Week 4

Week 4 was a interesting week beign since I have never worked with audio editing before.

I had no idea of the amount of work that goes into making even the simpliest sound bit.

This week we received information on our group project, and I did not reply to the request of group members because to me I think it would be better for me to be put into a group that I have no deciding factor on.  I think this way  because it allows me to work with people that I might not have worked with otherwise.

This week we learned some key points from Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad which I discussed in the post http://shenikarich.com/audio-storytelling/

This week I listened to a very interesting radio story (I love old stories and seeing how things were done in the past!!)

I listened to The Ghost of Bobby Dunbar which can be found at http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/352/the-ghost-of-bobby-dunbar

I think it was very effective to tell the story in audio because I also read it in print and the story with the music and voice dynamics really brings it to life.  The producers used music to add dynamics to the story for example the part when they spoke of the conflicting news headlines it played mysterious music.  It was like a modern mystery that I was listening to although the kidnapping took place a century ago.  The technique used to tell the story was that the producers gave background information on the kidnapping but jumped to modern time to determine how the mystery ties into modern-day times and showed how things were done in the past and how luck we are today to have modern science and technology. When they told the story of Julia, I could only imagine that someone came and took my son from me and giving him to someone else because there child went missing so now I have to suffer???  From the references it seems more inline with transom.

This week I had to create a radio bumper and a five sound story it was hardwork but instead of me blabbing on about them you can actually here for yourself at the links below:
