I have to admit that while I really can’t wait to try and find time to contribute something to ds106 radio, I am still obsessed with animated gif technique. Thanks to Tom, I think I’m starting to understand how a … Continue readin...

Illustrate 106

by
_cpzh4: Let's celebrate our 106ness- create a graphic, find a a photo, manipulate an exiting image to somehow represent the number 106. It could be literal (like a sign that has 106 on it, example below), to say, something using CVI (roman digits), maybe something with 106 items in it...., _cre1l: Visual, _d415a: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cogdog/5270160097/, _d5fpr: CogDog, _clrrx: 35, _cyevm: VisualAssignments35, _cztg3: VisualAssignments, _d180g: 180

Vision of the future

by
_cpzh4: What will life be like when apps such as Layar or Google Goggles are no longer applications in a handheld device, but hardwired into our brains? Shoot some normal everyday event from your own point of view. Layer some 'augmented' reality style effects on top of the video in an attempt to show what life will be like once we are cybernetically linked to technologies such as Layar or Google Goggles. It could be like the view that the Terminator sees through his robotic eyes, or something more down to earth like a price comparison app that appears as you do your shopping. Make it funny, make it serious or speculate about how this technology might be used for good or bad., _cre1l: Video, _d415a: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MeaaCwBW28, _d5fpr: Colin Maxwell, _clrrx: 32, _cyevm: VideoAssignments32, _cztg3: VideoAssignments, _d180g: 165

Stranger Portraits

by
_cpzh4: Take a portrait of a total stranger each day for 7 days. Try to capture their image in a way that gives the viewer a deeper understanding of the person. Write a little about how you approached the person and what you learned about them. This assignment is part photography challenge but the harder part, in my opinion, is forcing yourself to interact with strangers in a fairly personal way. , _cre1l: Visual, _d415a: http://www.dannyst.com/shooting-portraits-of-strangers/, _d5fpr: Tom, _clrrx: 29, _cyevm: VisualAssignments29, _cztg3: VisualAssignments, _d180g: 150

Troll Quotes

by
_cpzh4: Find an image of a well known figure, add to it a famous quote by someone related in some way to the figure in the image and then attribute the quote to a third, related figure. From the official site: How It Works 1) Get a picture of someone people idolize. Obi Wan Kenobi, Barack Obama, Captain Kirk — any beloved public figure will do. 2) Slap on a famous quotation from a similar character from a different book or movie. Pick something close enough that a non-fan might legitimately confuse them. If you’re using Captain Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation, for example, you’ll probably want to grab a quote from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica. 3) Attribute the quotation to a third character, from yet a third universe. This way, nothing about your image is correct, and you’re trolling fans of all three characters at once. , _cre1l: Visual, _d415a: http://www.trollquotes.com/, _d5fpr: Mikhail Gershovich, _clrrx: 25, _cyevm: VisualAssignments25, _cztg3: VisualAssignments, _d180g: 130

A change of emotion (in two panels)

Un-scene stories

by
_cpzh4: Each scene in a movie can be considered the middle point of a bigger story. Each character in a scene has been doing something prior to the scene, and will do something after the scene has finished. Pick a minor character from a scene in a movie or TV show and write a short account of what they were doing before they entered the scene or after the scene ended. Watch the scene and see if you can identify clues as to what the character was doing or what they are about to do. For example, in the famous cantina scene in Star Wars a character named Ponda Baba (Walrus Man) picks a fight with Luke Skywalker, and Obi Wan Kenobi slices off his arm with a lightsaber. What made Ponda Baba so angry that day that he picked a fight in a bar? How did he deal with his wounds afterwards?, _cre1l: Fanfic, _d5fpr: Colin Maxwell, _clrrx: 14, _cyevm: FanficAssignments14, _cztg3: FanficAssignments, _d180g: 75
