Deliberate Photo Scavenger Hunt

by
_cpzh4: This assignment is adapted from Professor Jacob Urbanski's Scavenger Hunt assignment for beginning art students. He provided a list of abstract terms/ concepts that his students were supposed to get shots for. Let's do this, but let's do it with a twist. Think about the photos you want to take- don't just stumble into them. Set them up, choose the lighting, make some kind of decision regarding the shots. At the end, blog about the choices you made and how these choices either made a good photo or a bad one. Tag your photos "ds106" and "scavengerhunt". You can find the list of terms here: http://blog.houseoftheabsurd.net/archives/189, _cre1l: Visual, _d415a: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tempestuousseas/3357946043/, _d5fpr: Tempest, _clrrx: 63, _cyevm: VisualAssignments63, _cztg3: VisualAssignments, _d180g: 320

Infographic Life

by
_cpzh4: First, begin by spending a set period of time documenting things about your life. How much coffee are you drinking each day? How many miles do you walk/ride/drive to work/school/bars? You can use http://www.daytum.com to capture this data, or go old school with pen and paper. Stories Written In Windows Media Player

by
_cpzh4: Write a sentence (preferably somewhat coherent, yet on the nonsensical side), a poem, or a quick story using the titles of songs you have in your Windows Media Player (iTunes may possibly work as well). Print the screen. Paste it in Microsoft Paint (or some higher-end equivalent). Save it, upload it, and share. If you could even respond to the one I originally created as a challenge (possibly even embed it as a comment on that blog entry), that would be even cooler., _cre1l: Visual, _d415a: http://nogoodadvice.somethingkindaooooh.com/2011/02/04/visual-assignment/, _d5fpr: callean, _clrrx: 46, _cyevm: VisualAssignments46, _cztg3: VisualAssignments, _d180g: 235

The Hero’s Journey

by
_cpzh4: Remember those Choose Your Own Adventure books they used to have at the library? Well, let's do something like that. We’re going to tell the journey of a storybook hero. We won’t give him/her a name, or go into specifics like that. We’re not going to get bogged down on the details. Try to use archetypes and motifs that are recognizable, but it is up to you whether or not you want to make a comment on the accepted norms of fairy tales by breaking them. Start with a picture from Flickr. It can be random or deliberate, as long as it's not All Rights Reserved. Narrate the step of his/her journey, adding what details you will, but staying true to the plot. Comment on the step prior with a link to your step, so there is a clean series of narrative frames, each linking to the next. If there be multiple paths, then we will have a tree of potential outcomes for our hero. You may also start a new story if you wish. Also, please post a link to the step prior so that a reader can backtrack if they get lost or stumble upon a middle step. In summary the strict limitations: -You MUST have an image -Narrate in first person so gender can be generally overlooked. -Post a link to the step prior for backtracking purposes., _cre1l: Visual, _d415a: http://blog.houseoftheabsurd.net/archives/150, _d5fpr: Tempest, _clrrx: 45, _cyevm: VisualAssignments45, _cztg3: VisualAssignments, _d180g: 230

An Album Cover

by
_cpzh4: So here's something fun for everyone to do, should be quick and easy, but try to make it pretty. First, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The title of the article is now the name of your band. Next, go here: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 Go to the bottom of the page. The last four to five words of the last quote are the title of your first album Lastly, go here: http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days Select the 3rd image. It is the picture for your album cover. Manipulate the picture, resize it, add some other color, whatever. Do the same with the band name and album title, put them over top. However you wanna do it. Make it look cool., _cre1l: Visual, _d415a: http://blog.thecrazyleghero.info/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Stallion.jpg, _d5fpr: Crazylegs, _clrrx: 44, _cyevm: VisualAssignments44, _cztg3: VisualAssignments, _d180g: 225
