The Searchers – Daily Create Week 6

    by
I could not reset the opportunity to change the dialog in a comic for a daily create challenge. I had thought about making the Jesse James character speak as if he were the professional wrestler Jesse James. but when I looked at the comic I knew there was only one way to change the set up. I […]

    Response to L&K Chapter 3

    by
Chapter 3 continued to clarify, the what, and how new literacies are formed.  While the majority of literacy definitions speak to reading, writing, and literature; chapter 3 Technologies and Values explains how technologies have shifted our way of thinking, making meanings, acting, and otherwise organizing the ways for doing everyday life.   This chapter helps the reader take an historical perspective of the shift to new literacies.   Even as technology and the tools are rapidly shifting,

Week 5 Reflective Summary Part II

    by
Somewhere I missed the memo that obviously said to rate ourselves 1-10…? As I’ve read some reflections of peers, I see them giving a number…having missed the cue, I’m left to say 8 of 10. Just when you think you’re getting it…there’s more. My dad told a joke about mules that I can’t in full […]

Week Five Personal Reflection: Stumbles and Surprises

    by
These past two weeks definitely presented opportunities for me to learn new things, fail a little, and figure some things out. First off, the daily creates from DS106. For these assignments I really have no idea what I'm doing! But, I think I've done a good job of doing the best I can and posting anyway, even if I was unsure of myself. For week four I created a meme and for this week, five, I used the app, Giphy, to post a gif to Twitter. I learned something in week four that probably should

    Week 5 Personal Reflective Summary

    by
Let’s just say I hope I never am without a paper/pencil or laptop…or some magical way to create that hasn’t been invented yet! I felt OVERWHELMED at the outset, thinking that this was completely over my head…I now see that it is not. A quote from our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) night at […]

Chapter Critique – Digital Storytelling: Capturing Lives, Creating Community

    by
“An exercise in controlled ambiguity” This week I decided to examine additional resources given to us on digital storytelling. I chose to delve into Chapter 1 of Joe Lambert’s Digital Storytelling: Capturing Lives, Creating Community. In this invitation to consider the vast role of storytelling in our lives, the author provides a variety of examples of what stories … Continue reading Chapter Critique – Digital Storytelling: Capturing Lives, Creating Community

    Daily Create

@ds106dc  #tdc1504 Jesse James Day is celebrated every July in Adair, Iowa. (they do discuss WHY they celebrate this outlaw…) Adair was the site of Jesse’s first train robbery. My cousins live and farm in Adair. To prepare for the Jesse James Days, they crank homemade ice cream with tractors, scoop it into gallons, store it […]

    Week 5 Reflection #ILT5340

    by
I feel special that was part of the 1500 post of daily create this week.  That is quite the milestone for this project and learning experience.  I was happy that it happened on the one day I chose to do my daily create.  I could’ve easily chose the next or previous days. I also really […]

Digital Story Critique: the amazing egg! #ILT5340

    by
http://player.pbs.org/viralplayer/2282248261 I enjoyed this digital story on Rocky Mountain PBS about Grant Farms and their eggs and chickens.  Grant Farms produces pasture raised chickens that can be bought through their CSA or through Whole Foods.  Rocky Mountain PBS covered their egg production in an episode of “Great Ingredients.”  I chose three traits to analyze this […]

    New Literacies Chapter 3 #ILT5340

    by
I chose to read chapter 3 of New Literacies this week.  There were some things I didn’t agree with in this chapter, but what I will focus on in this post is my thoughts in regards to Web 1.0 and Web 2.0.  I had never really thought of the evolution of the internet in this […]

Both Sides Now#ds106 Daily Create: #tdc1502 Both Sides of the Clouds *I am currently working my way through my fourth semester of the Information and Learning Technologies master’s program at University of Colorado, Denver.  This is the fifth post within a series of Daily Creates that I’ve been assigned to complete for a course titled Digital Storytelling. Today’s Daily Create was to “Show us your […]

    Week 5 Digital Story Critique

    by
One of the sites suggested by Lori was digital storytelling at the University of Houston, so I thought I’d check it out. I LOVE finding creative ways for students to learn. Under the technology tab I found the digital story called “How Pop-ups Got their Pop” by Shaunna Smith 2008. I was expecting something on the […]

Week 5 Digital Story Critique – Katrina

    by
If a hurricane could speak what would it say? Kevin Cordi asked his student.  At the beginning of a digital storytelling instructional process, Kevin asked her if a book about Katrina was missing anything. She wondered what he meant by this. Kevin continued, "What story is not told here that you can give a voice?"   In the book, the effects of Katrina are shared with readers through the voices of the two main characters, twelve-year-old Lanesha and her older caretaker, Mama Ya-Ya. CARP in Webinars

    by
For my course, Webinars and Synchronus Learning, we are discussing design principles. We have talked a lot about the CARP method:   Contrast Alignment Repetition Proximity   This really came in handy when I read about it because I immediately took a look at my own website (this one!) and realized that I wasn't exactly following this method... The one that really stood out to me was contrast. Contrast simply means difference. Every element of the design process such as line, shapes, colors,

Holiday Mashup—Take 3 holidays and bring them all together. Looking through my window, these are special and I look forward to celebrating each when it comes. The picture window is the birth of Christ, to the left are representations of Easter, and then bringing  the Irish together in fellowship is  St. Patrick’s Day.   This […]
