Spies Like Benny Hill

I’ve got my video assignment here, which was fun/painful working on, but gave me ideas to what I could have done. Kinda hate that thought after finishing one of these projects, oohhh I could have done this! But this being the first attempt and all, well its more of an experiment that a perfect final product.

I’m not sure how I thought of working with Spies Like Us, but I figured the Video Essay or Trailer Mash-Up would be the most fun to work on. After going through the movie, I couldn’t think up anything great to add to the film, then just stumbled on the idea of grabbing a bunch of the scenes, speeding them up to twice speed, dropping the film audio, adding the theme from Benny Hill, and voila, we have a trailer.

Now its not perfect, I didn’t go through enough scenes to get the proper ones, with movement of people back and forth, rather I grabbed scenes that appealed to me. One of the biggest things I had struggles with was speeding the video up. The solution I found wasn’t the greatest, but exporting the project every time I wanted to do the speed effect worked. Next I tried to add the theme song from a video I grabbed from YouTube, but had trouble splitting the audio from the video, and then adding it to the trailer. I ended up with just grabbing a mp3 of the theme song, unfortunately it was just over minute long, compared with the video song which was four-and-a-half minutes long. Thankfully adding another playing of the song right after the previous had ended was not difficult. I finally added some Title segments to add just a little bit more of me to the trailer.

If I were to do this again I think I would do a mash-up of the character Ash from all the Evil Dead movies, I think that would be a lot of fun. This trailer may only be three-and-a-half minutes long, but the clips it originated from were almost seven. Here it is.
