For my tutorial, I decided to show how someone would be able to work with the audio when combining a video with prior audio and a new audio track. An example of where this technique might come in handy is when we were asked to make a mashup of two movie trailers. Say you combined those two trailers and you wanted the imported audio track to stand out the most. This would be easy. However, what if you wanted the original video audio to stand out during certain moments? Windows Live Movie Maker makes this very simple.
I wont talk down to my readers, so I will assume that we are all able to import the files and start from there.
1. Once the files are imported, you want to identify the segments you want to stand out the most. It helped me to turn down the volume of the entire video track, play it, and see where you might want to do some editing. For example – moments of long silence.
2. After you identified something you want to emphasis, bring your cursor to the start of the clip. Go to Video Tools > Split (This will separate the clip from the rest of the video) Then take your cursor and place it at the scenes end. Repeat the split tool. Now you have a new segmented clip.
3. If you want to make the video audio louder, click on the new segment and go over to “Volume” and drag it to however loud you want it.
4. You can do the same thing with the imported audio. This time you want to put your cursor to the start of the clip that you want to overpower the video, go to “Music Tools” > split and do the same thing you did for the video split. Then select the segmented music clip and decrease/increase the volume as you would like.
