Pimpin’ Up da Flickr

Trying to figure out how to embed a set from Flickr was difficult.. I tried to work through the process and post it and see what happened. I did that a couple of times. But thankfully Alan came to my rescue and told me how to embed a set! You can see my struggle hereeeee.

Photoblitz

Photoblitz was so fun!! I really enjoyed this assignment, you can read about all of my thoughts on it here. It was a really unique experience because I had to create something from essentially nothing, or an idea that could be interpreted so many different ways. I was so glad to be able to do this with my friend Grace. It’s so nice to have a friend in this class!!

Daily Creates

I really really enjoyed doing the Daily Creates this week! I know last week I had said that they weren’t very interesting and was a little disappointed. This week made up for it for sure! I just really enjoyed the process it took for me to think about the Bald daily create. I got to think of my family in Charlottesville and I don’t get to see them very often so I really enjoy any connections I have to them. I miss them lots and lots!! Thinking about them always makes me so happy!

Visual Assignments 9/24-9/30

The visual assignments were the most interesting part of the assignments for me this week. Not having one huge assignment to complete (like the 5 Sound Story or the GIFs from weeks past), this made up for that by being one bulky assignment with bits and pieces to do.

You can see all of my assignments here:

  • Blue Balloon – Turn a picture black and white, keep a single object the original color, 2 STARS
  • Pop Art – Normal to EXTRAORDINARY, 3 STARS
  • Treyvaux – Creating an album cover from 3 random things! 2 STARS
  • Flower Power – Manipulating the colors of an image, 2 STARS
  • Sketchy Kids – Transform a picture into a drawing, 2 STARS

TOTAL OF 11 STARS

Reflection

So this week. This was a good week. I really tried to make sure this week that I was working throughout the week and completing assignments before Sunday so that today I would just be able to link to everything in my weekly summary and that’s all the work I would have to do. It worked out partially… Next week will be better!

I really liked this week because it focused on photography and I’ve always kinda liked photography. I’ve grown up with my mom always having a camera ready in her hand, at athletic events, birthday parties, first days of school, etc. So I’ve gotten used to posing and always being ready and with all of that, I’ve kind of developed my own eye for taking pictures. Seeing things in normal reality and then thinking about how they would turn out in a picture.

All of the techniques about How To Be a Better Photographer really captured my interest because they were all kind of things that I had already been thinking about when taking my pictures. I read through them and took them into consideration when doing the Photoblitz assignment this week. Especially the technique about angles was very pertinent with this assignment, specifically with the Converging Lines photograph. I got that photo by getting very close to the wall and angling the camera outward to get the desired effect.

To tell a story visually is very different than telling a story by audio because you get to actually see the picture right in front of you. It’s there. It can’t be ignored. You might think that because the picture is provided for you, that the story is told for you, that there is only one way to view it; but that is wrong. There are still all kinds of interpretations one could take from a photo. That’s what’s interesting about photography. Although you see it, each person has their own different way of seeing it. A certain angle could suggest one thing or maybe even the omission of another thing could as well. It’s all arbitrary.
