Hoo Knew Boot Camp would be so Intense (Week 1)

Week 1, aka “Boot Camp”, is finally coming to an end.  It has been confusing, but I think I am starting to figure all of this out.  Slowly, but surely.  Here is what I have done so far.

First I watched a couple of videos and looked at an image.  From these I created “nuggets” (unfortunately not chicken nuggets…).  NUGGET 1:  Robert Hughes talked about art being an experience through feeling.  I completely agree with this.  Most people think art is just painting, but it can also be music, cooking, dance, and so much more.  It all depends on who you are asking.  NUGGET 2:  (This nugget is also brought to you by Robert Hughes).  This video mentioned that children are the most creative.  I think a better way to say this is that people not caught up in societal norms are the most creative.  We have to look outside ourselves and the world we live in to truly create.  Children are the pinnacle of this because they have not been corrupted by the world yet.  NUGGET 3: The image we looked at was intriguing.  Specifically I want to focus on Rule #2 (part 2), “Pull everything out of your fellow students”.  This is important to any class because our peers teach us new things and expand our own thoughts and ideas.  People would get no where by just being with themselves and not allowing others to influence them.  All 3 of these nuggets are important to ds106.  We need to understand that this class is an art all its own, we need to step outside our comfort zones and be truly creative maybe by getting in touch with our inner child, and especially looking to one another for help and ideas.

I was excited to do my Daily Create because I get to have fun with them.  All I had to do was record myself on my webcam and upload it to youtube with some tags and BAM DONE!  Plus it was automatically put onto the dailycreate page.  I was a little nervous, but here it is:

After I did mine I looked at ones other people put up.  I realized I need to be more creative and work on being an extrovert.  I can’t wait to do the photography daily creates.  Like my favorite place to study:

We also had to set up numerous accounts.  Here are mine:

Twitter: caseyragg       Flickr: cragghia       Youtube: cragghia      and SoundCloud: caseyragg

I have been very against getting a twitter and tweeting, but it seems that I have no choice now.  Here is my first tweet introducing myself to ds106 @cogdog:

Boot Camp was not easy.  I had to create accounts which included me having to break down and get a twitter.  It was hard figuring out the domain and subdomain as well as getting onto my blog and posting (which you can see I have figured out).  Thankfully the embedding and hyperlinks seem pretty straight forward, except the twitter one.  I am excited to learn new things on the internet as well as create my own.  I am the most excited about the daily creates because they look super fun!  I am not excited about tweeting or figuring out exactly what needs to be done each week (it seems pretty scattered right now).  I’m sure I will have questions, but I can not think of any off hand.  In the mean time here is my About, which I will add more to and my Introduction post.
