The Internet is Like a Quilt: Week 9

This week, we finally premiered our Digital Dynamite radio show, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. You can find my evaluation of the show here along with my evaluation of the show from The Fifth dimension, both of which can be listened to in this post on the ds106 main site.

I was able to showcase my love of Musical Theatre this week during our Storytelling within the Web assignment. I used Hackasarus to remake Reddit from the point of view of Trekkie Monster (pictured above) from Avenue Q. If you don’t know the show, Trekkie is obsessed with porn, and sings The Internet Is For Porn in the show. My writeup of the modification process which resulted in Trekkie’s Reddit can be found here.

We were also required to do five stars worth of Web Design assignments and I chose to do the 4-star YouTube It Your Way assignment and the 1-star Google Translate Fail assignment. I once again used Hackasarus for the YouTube It Your Way assignment, transforming the page of the infamous Man In Horsemask Jogging During Hurricane Sandy video into a video about sightings of a mythical Horse/Man who was brought out of hiding during the hurricane. While it was tricky at first to come up with titles, I eventually got into the swing of it and redid the entire page. For the Google Translate Fail assignment, I chose to translate the team profile of the New York Mets on the mlbkorea website. I learned that proper nouns do not translate all that well, as Shea Stadium became Shay’s 84380 Radium.

I continued the storytelling this weeks with my creation of Moonbeam, my new comment character. Moonbeam is  a 20-something from 1969 who during an acid trip during Woodstock unwittingly agreed to be a timetraveler and has just been transported from the original Woodstock to modern America, where she is stone cold sober and rather confused about all of the new technology but at the same time, still interested in this world that she has been thrust into.

As Moonbeam, I found contemporary culture to be nothing short of interesting, having never seen a cat video before in my life. My comments as Moonbeam can be found on in the following places: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Bagwoman

We were instructed to connect our Daily Creates this week into a story, and I created Waiting For Bagman, as well as a new Bagwoman character who I may use in future assignments.

Lastly this week, we were instructed to share some of our media that we made but did not use for assignments this semester, which will then be used later for remixing. My four files were:
