Case of the Beetles J-Walking

When looking through the mash up assignments I came across the Remix an Album Cover assignment and thought this would be a cool project! It was instructed to use an iconic album cover and remix it have a new perspective.  Growing up listening to the oldies with my parents (lets be honest the oldies contain the best music to which music in our generation use as a base line) I instinctively thought of the Beetles Abby Road Album.  This album cover is very recognizable and many of times people try to remake it in random crosswalk environments.  Fun fact about the placement of the Abby Road cover picture: The picture was taken about 11 blocks from Abby Road and not actually at the cross walk located at Abby Road. After picking the iconic album cover I wanted to use, based on the memories it brought back from my childhood, I went onto google and typed in Beetle’s Abby Road album cover and downloaded that image into gimp to be edited.

The spin I wanted to take on the image was to make it look like they were j-walking and a police officer was telling them to stop while another police officer was sitting them a ticket. I went onto google and searched for traffic officers and for an officer giving out a ticket.

Both of the officer photos were downloaded onto GIMP and I used the laso cutter to cut out the shapes of the officers and then I copied and pasted them onto the album cover.  Once the officers were added to the cover, I took the paint brush and made the street all one color to eliminate the cross walk and then added white lines to the street.  Once the Beetles looked like they were walking in the middle of the street, instead of on the sidewalk I added the text “J-Walking…..” “…..Like a Boss” (with the text icon) to the bottom to add a little more clarity to the new album cover.  Once I completed the text I exported as a JPEG onto flickr where I tagged it with MashupAssignments211, MashupAssignments and ds106 so it would be recognized by the assignment bank.
