I watched a digital story about potatoes this week – http://www.pbs.org/food/how-does-it-grow/potatoes/  The digital story covers how potatoes grow, how they’re turned into potato chips in a factory, and then a recipe for potatoes.  I analyzed this story based on the following assessment traits: Project planning content understanding story It is clear that a lot of […]

    Life Long Learning Benefits

    by
Before talking about Lifelong Learning Benefits, I believe necessary to define what Lifelong Learning is,  so to understand that  it refers  more to an attitude than to a skill.   In words of Wikipedia Lifelong learning is the ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional…

Digital Story Critique 7: Teriyaki Joe: Neo-Harlem Detective

    by
After exploring several video stories and one podcast, my next digital story critique is a Twitter novel. Most of my ideas for critiques are generated through Google searches for hip hop and digital storytelling. As with any online search, one thing leads to another and suddenly you find yourself down a rabbit hole of related … Continue reading Digital Story Critique 7: Teriyaki Joe: Neo-Harlem Detective

    Week 11 Story Critique

Q&A is a story from the Story Corps in which a 12 year old boy with Asperger’s, Joshua, is interviewing his mother. The story involves just the two of them talking, the boys is asking his mother questions but it feels more like a conversation and less like an interview. This story warmed my heart for several reasons that were hard for me to put into words at first. Joshua questions his mother in a stream of consciousness that sometimes doesn’t make sense or seems out of context. It was hard

Yesterday's daily create was too good to pass up! Sum up a movie in 4 emojis! I thought it would be so easy but let me tell you, it was not! It took me quite a while. I kept having to come back to it throughout the afternoon. I started with a man and a spider but couldn't think of two more emojis to add to it. I suppose I cold have kept the spider and man, that's pretty obvious but it doesn't seem as fun. I picked the face with glasses and the lightning bolt, envelope, and snake. Let's see if

Adapting to a New Culture   by Yukiko Nishimura   2013 This is a very honest reflection done by Yukiko, a girl growing up in Japan, then choosing to come to the USA. New Literacies Chapter Six Critique

    by
After reading chapter six of New Literacies I decided to write my own case study, on myself, and my relationship with social media and social networking. Kristin Vossler Facebook: A Case Study My love/hate relationship with social media began in 2009. A late bloomer when it comes to social media I joined Facebook in the summer of 2009 after a group of co-workers were all on it constantly at work. I have to admit there may have been a little peer pressure at work here. Facebook was the first

    Empire Strikes a Nerve

    by
Soundcloud Audio File Wednesday night I watched, along with 16.7 million other viewers, the first episode of Empire, season 3.  For Empire fans across the globe the show’s hiatus has been an entertainment desert for us.  I considered Empire as just that entertainment.  I mean Cookie is one bad ass broad.  Who can forget “You keep forgetting one thing, Lucius. You can’t keep Cookie down.”  Then there is her ex-husband Lucious who we love to hate, and their handsome sons Hakeem, Jamal, and Andre
