    Empire Strikes a Nerve

    by
Soundcloud Audio File Wednesday night I watched, along with 16.7 million other viewers, the first episode of Empire, season 3.  For Empire fans across the globe the show’s hiatus has been an entertainment desert for us.  I considered Empire as just that entertainment.  I mean Cookie is one bad ass broad.  Who can forget “You keep forgetting one thing, Lucius. You can’t keep Cookie down.”  Then there is her ex-husband Lucious who we love to hate, and their handsome sons Hakeem, Jamal, and Andre

    Week 10 Story Critique

    by
This story on NPR is actually an interview with Ephron's son, Jacob Bernstein, who is the son of two writers and created a documentary about his mother for HBO. I liked the format of the interview as a story, I questioned at first whether it was a story at all but after listening I realized it certainly is. The interview begins with the interviewer asking Jacob about the title of his documentary, Everything is Copy. He talks about how it came from something his grandmother always told his

    Week 10 Digital Story Critique

    by
Digital Storytelling This is a digital story about creating and using digital stories in education. In viewing this video, I am looking at the following: Media Development Process , Originality/voice/creativity, and Media Application. While the content was applicable to my role of bringing digital story ideas to my elementary school, I have to admit that […]

Week 10 Response to Scholar Article

    by
Teaching for ELLs (English Language Learners)  I found Deb Hanson, teacher,  who is posting on Rachel’s blog as a guest. She gives Top 10 Tips for a teacher that all of a sudden finds themselves with a non-English speaking student/s. I found the article generally most helpful, especially if the teacher has not had any […]

    Story Critique: Bubble Tea #ILT5340

    by
I decided to switch things up this week and do a blog post as my digital story, instead of a video.  I have almost exclusively done videos so far, but I feel that this could be a digital story as well.  I decided to do this blog post: http://www.pbs.org/food/fresh-tastes/bubble-tea/ I will critique it on the […]

Alexander Chapter 5: Social Media Storytelling #ILT5340

    by
I chose to read another one of the readings posted in the course as alternative options to our textbook.  I really enjoyed this chapter, because it defined specific types of digital stories available online.  When I think of podcasts I’ve listed to, some of them fit the digital story idea presented in the chapter.  One […]

Shelter Crisis – Wk 10 Critique

"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Ghandi Food, clothing, shelter, medical care; unmet basic needs that often underlie our shameful record of homelessness, hunger, abuse, mass incarceration, addiction, crime, and many other social ills. Week 10 Focal Theme Response

    by
This week I found this great article on adoption. Adoption seems like the next logical step in the exploration of my theme: motherhood. Adoption, as a conversation, has been very prevalent in my house in the last few months. There are many issues, fears, difficulties, and barriers to adoption. When I was searching for information on adoption I found this article that addressed issues that I hadn’t even thought of yet.   Adoption usually isn’t what people think of or dream of when it comes

Last week I attended a concert by a band whose most famous song is entitled “Endless Cycle of Violence“. The very next day I found myself making dozens of waffles for a brunch with friends. So I present here: ENDLESS CYCLE OF WAFFLES. The original song is playing in the background. Enjoy!
