Digital Story Critique: Straight Outta Chevy Chase

    by
The digital story that I am critiquing this week is a 30-minute episode of the popular podcast Radiolab, which airs regularly on NPR. Radiolab is an informative and educational podcast whose structure often utilizes storytelling. The program is hosted by Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich and is described as follows on their website: “Radiolab is a show … Continue reading Digital Story Critique: Straight Outta Chevy Chase

    Chapter Critique: Social Media Storytelling

    by
This week I have chosen to critique a chapter in The New Digital Storytelling: Creating Narratives with New Media by Bryan Alexander. It is relevant to the digital story critique that I am currently working on because it discusses podcasts. Here the author outlines the use of storytelling tools that rely on audio and video elements and he … Continue reading Chapter Critique: Social Media Storytelling

    Daily Challenge: Itch-a-Sketch

    by
@ds106dc  #tdc1535    I used to erase my Etch-a-Sketch pretty quickly. Some people rocked it. I tried to create a person with the eye-dea in their brain, plugged into the digital world, and if I had some neon…the DS 106 would be flashing. Hmmm, it’s OK. I did NOT want to begin again!

    Week 9 Response, Scholarly Article

“In the journey myths I enjoy, you do not find your calling, your calling finds you”, says Joe Lambert, founder of The Center for Digital Storytelling.  If ever a person’s soul was expressed in their life work Joe Lambert is that guy. With roots in social justice activism, theatre, and love of story and community Joe’s story starts where most of ours does, with family. In chapter three of his book Digital Storytelling, Capturing Lives, Creating Community Joe’s point of view is; digital

(Have you ever looked around and suddenly noticed faces everywhere? Find a “face in the wild” and take a picture to share.) Found this little guy smiling at me at the gym today, as if to say, “Keep going, you can do it! “

    Week 9 Digital Story Critique

    by
Visual Literacy The image below is not part of the video I watched, but I decided to look deeper into the thought of “visual literacy”. There is so much more than the 4+ minute video. I was looking for a picture to capture what I was feeling, but instead I saw this magnificent graphic organizer. […]

Week 9 Chapter 5 New Literacies, Reflection

    by
Who knew that blogging originated back in the 1990’s, and that it began from website managers pasting links to other websites? It makes sense that the links were finds that resonated with the person or people running the website: perhaps hilarity, or curiosity or a general newsworthy piece thought worthy of sharing. Those looking could […]

    R.I.P – Daily Create Wk 9

    by
Get rid of something in today’s world, put it’s tombstone up at Boot Hill.  Those were the directions for todays Daily Create.   Curious about the origins of the criminalization of marijuana I was surprised to find the demonization of the cannabis plant was an extension of the demonization of the Mexican immigrants after the Mexican revolution.  Exacerbated by the costly and ineffective "War on Drugs" and "Broken Windows Policing," marijuana use is used to oppress.  Police made fewer than 800

    Week 9 reflection #ILT5340

    by
It’s spring break!  My husband and I are going to Williamsburg, VA tonight.  At least hopefully we are.  The snow is coming down out here.  Hopefully our flight doesn’t get delayed.  I’m already not happy about the red eye flight.  Growing up in Hawaii, I’ve become very familiar with the concept and have hated it […]

    Literature Response: L&K Chapter 5 #ILT5340

    by
I thought that this chapter was interesting, reviewing two of the most popular types of websites out there: blogs and wikis.  As I was reading the section about the blog, I kept hoping for a specific definition of a blog.  We can all recognize a blog.  We all know what it looks like and how […]

    Critique: Apples #ILT5340

    by
http://player.pbs.org/viralplayer/2365470270   I chose this digital story, because we’d like to grow apples in our yard.  In my critique of this digital story, I chose the following assessment traits: story flow, organization, and pacing presentation and performance I thought that the story aspect of this video was really strong.  It is put in the perspective […]

T is for Touch, Tell, Tribe

    by
When I first heard the term “tribe” for the INTE 5665 class led by Dr. Joni Dunlap, I was a bit foggy for where we were heading. It makes sense now. Your tribe. Your group. Your people. Your comrades. Who is thinking like me, how important visuals are for instruction? Who is creating out their […]

    Resume Virtues & Eulogy Virtues

While skimming through fb and twitter I came upon a beautifully written article from the heart of David Brooks, an Op-Ed Columnist with The New York Times. His essay came from a recent work entitled “The Road to Character”, now on my must read book list. “It occurred to me that there were two sets […]
