    Live Tweet Along!

    by
This Monday I participated in the DS106 radio tweet-along. At first I was a little intimidated and not sure what to expect; however, I ended up having a lot of fun. I have never participated in a live tweet-along. It was fun to interact with other students in the class, as well as with Professor […]

The Whispering Sea But You’re In Another Room…

    by
… and It’s Raining Outside and Your Siblings Are Playing In It and Your Parents Are Making Dinner and You’re Playing Video Games. That’s the title. (Cover art by Matt Rockefeller!) Inspiration taken from the following (anyone else have a Minecraft phase?): For this assignment, I decided to kind of combine two into one: the … Continue reading "The Whispering Sea But You’re In Another Room…"

    Moon Graffiti

    by
“Moon Graffiti” is a fiction audio story based on President Nixon’s speech entitled, “In Event of Moon Disaster,” which would be given had the moon landing not gone as planned. The following are my thoughts as I listen in…. The story opens with radio transmissions to the space craft and a controller. You can hear […]

    Daily Create 2/13/20

    by
When I read today’s Daily Create, I laughed. As someone who doesn’t watch a lot of movies or shows I didn’t have many actors to insult….the one actor that I really love is Leonardo DiCaprio and I was going to insult him but I couldn’t. I don’t think there is anything wrong with him…other than Read More

    Week 5 – Weekly Summary

    by
Here are the links to all my posts this week: Audio creation definitely was the hardest unit for me so far. There is definitely a learning curve for digital audio creation because there are lot of softwares and tools. I think I could have spent more time this week learning but it was just hard for me to get into it because I am not very good at using computers.

    tweet along

    by
I was a bit worried at first that I would have no idea what to say about the story I heard on Tuesday, but as the radio show went on, I actually ended up tweeting a lot more than I thought I would. Here are a couple of my favorite things I noticed about the story! i like how the speaker's facts about melting glaciers/global warming is reinforced with another person giving facts about it! also the kind of eerie music in the background kinda reflects how i feel about climate change (scared!!!) #ds106 — Rachel Tafoya (@rachelds106) February 12, 2020 he (the radiohost) connected the audio and ended his sentence with "a home"…and then the audio picked up with "a home?!", I think that's super cool, and really connects the audio to the speaker even more (did it again with the full moon!) #ds106 — Rachel Tafoya (@rachelds106) February 12, 2020 the sounds of the night really make it feel like you're there as the audio continues…would be a lot different if it was just the audio #ds106 — Rachel Tafoya (@rachelds106) February 12, 2020 the boiling sound….temperature rising! (makes me think of our oceans boiling). #ds106 — Rachel Tafoya (@rachelds106) February 12, 2020 "polyphonic listening"…not about the audio but i learned a new word #ds106 — Rachel Tafoya (@rachelds106) February 12, 2020

Two of my favorite things to relax to are the sound of the piano, and the sound of rain. If I’m stressed out before bed, I usually put on some rain sounds or piano sounds, so for this ...

    in honor of valentine’s day…

    by
For this assignment, I took a little twist on it. I decided to honor the theme of Valentine’s Day as well as out 80’s class theme, and pull a monologue from one of my favorite movies!  I added some background music from Youtube Free Music that I think fit the script. Also, I apologize for my sickly voice. I tried so hard to get through reading this without coughing my lungs out 🙁  P.S. – if you’ve watched Grey’s Anatomy and are in love with McDreamy like I am but haven’t seen this movie yet, you need to watch it! Patrick Dempsey has been amazing since his teen years.

    Relaxing Sounds v. Auditory Hell

    by
For my second Audio Bank assignment, I chose All the Relaxation. This assignment asked the creator to create a collaboration of sounds that could be looped to create a relaxing background noise. I used freesound.org for my sounds and Garage Band to complete the assignment. In my last assignment I focused on layering sounds, for […]

Week 5 Assignment Write Ups…Digital Audio has a learning curve

    by
This week I did 3 audio assignments. Make it 800% slower was pretty straightforward. I took a part of a song (a.lone by XXXTENTACION), and in Audacity, the recommended software, I used “change tempo”. The slowed down clip sounds real choppy but I saw somebody explain in the Youtube comment section that this is the software’s fault. It doesn’t sound that good but that’s fine because I learned how to
