    Week 15 Stories that Matter

    by
This began by me typing ‘short digital stories that matter’ and I found the following. I did not explore this site fully, but I found it intriguing. I still think about kids, elementary kids. Even though the video has adults asking and telling about their desires and ideas…what’s to say the same format will not […]

    Week 15 Chapter 6; Gaming:Storytelling on a Small Scale

    by
I had to look the word “apophenia” right out of the gate with this statement by Alexander (2011) “Looking for storytelling in gaming makes too much of too little, and exercise in apophenia. Alternatively, story isn’t simply that important to the real function of games.” (p. 91). Then out of my element, he […]

Week 15 Digital Story Critique – The Speech that Made Obama President

    by
I am critiquing The Speech that Made Obama President a digital story related to the power of great storytelling. Throughout this course the anatomy of good storytelling has unfolded.  Digital tools are our vehicle.  However, the engine has to work.  Can people fold their story into your story? Is the storyteller finding common ground? Does the story use contrast to convey the message? Does the story touch your heart conveying that you matter to the storyteller?  These are all elements of great

Literary Response: Chapter 8 of Alexander #ILT5340

    by
I really enjoyed chapter 8 of Bryan Alexander’s The New Digital Storytelling due to its ability to really make me think about books in a broader manner.  First of all, it make me think about how this ILT program has redefined my idea of a handout.  When I create handouts now, I think of them […]

Digital Story Critique #15: Food #ILT5340

    by
I think it’s fitting that I do my final digital story critique on this digital story.  I was curious what TED talks had to do with food, so I googled “TED food” and this was the top hit: https://embed-ssl.ted.com/talks/jamie_oliver.html I have come across Jamie Oliver a lot in the years of my food hobby.  He […]

    Chapter 8 New Literacies

    by
Chapter eight of New Literacies was a bit of a letdown for me. To be honest, it was a tough chapter to read. For this chapter the authors gave some examples of New Literacies being used in the classroom. One thing that has driven me crazy with this book is its constant use of examples. Examples can be great for illustrating your ideas and bringing those ideas into the real world however, by this point in the book I have found the authors have really overdone the use of examples. Maybe it’s the

    Daily Create #15: Kapoho #ILT5340

    by
I was going to make my current puppy, but they didn’t have Australian Shepherd as an option.  So I made my puppy growing up, Kapoho.  She was a Rottweiler and German Shepherd.  Mutt Maker _ Animal Planet  Kapoho, who was also known as Poho, Po-Dog, and when she was bad, Edgar Allen Poe, was a […]

    Mother’s Day…to Mom in Iowa

    by
Imagine we’re together enjoying the fresh berries and chocolatey good pretzels…most likely discussing life, family, books, PEO, and Bartok. I love you momma. Happy Mother’s Day! I sent this message with the Sherri’s Berries and dipped pretzel sticks! My Momma

    Digital Stories Final Portfolio

    by
For my graduate coursework in Instructional Learning Technologies I enrolled in the course, Learning with Digital Stories. Here I would like to walk through a final portfolio of selected assignments, theme responses, and story critiques to highlight some of the work I’ve completed in the course and reflect on what I’ve learned.  First Focal Theme ResponseWhen I was trying to come up with my focal theme for the semester it was quite difficult for me. I kept coming back to the theme of motherhood

Scholarship Response 4: Extending the Potential for Struggling Writers

    by
This reading, Digital Storytelling: Extending the Potential for Struggling Writers, is about how digital storytelling can help students with writing assignments when a conventional approach to writing “Digital storytelling is an example of a multimedia text that encompasses both traditional and new literacies and has the potential for stimulating struggling writers.” The article presents a compelling synthesis of … Continue reading Scholarship Response 4: Extending the Potential for Struggling Writers

    Daily Create

    by
@ds106dc  #tdc1577 Today’s daily create is for everyone, but especially some folks at Fleming College — invent your own thing that could be used to retrain some of them ol’ synapses in your brain. I LOVE these…I LOVE to create, to be zany, to be unlike the “norm.”
