    Chalk talk

    by
I looked over Jim’s collection of chalkboard shots, and thought a little about each one. In the 70s, we see conditions developing – protocols (like FTP), applications (email, games), and personal computers (Apple II). These things are setting the stage … Continue reading

    Host Edmonton

    by

I had the pleasure of volunteering at Host Edmonton this weekend. It was a delicious and intimate affair. On Friday night I was able to check out the Fine Wine Gala. It was my first time in the Riverview Room, what a fantastic view! I didn’t do the wine tasting, but it looks like it […]

On the Road With Mariana Funes Talking About DS106

    by
creative commons licensed ( BY-SA ) flickr photo shared by cogdogblog Before reading this, I suggest reviewing Mariana’s newly shared “The psychology of open: On wrestling your inner MOOC”. It was written for a presentation she is doing June 3 at one of the more interestingly titled and themed conferences — The Higher Education Academy is running a conference called Heroes and monsters: extraordinary tales of learning and teaching in the arts and humanities. Her summary: I have been invited to run a workshop on the psychology of open education ‘You cannot be half-open: On wrestling your inner MOOC’. I want to focus on the inner barriers academics wanting to operate in the open web encounter and how they can overcome them. This is what I am defining as the psychology of open education and I have decided that my next book will be about this. What follows are my […]

    Summaries so far

    by
The summaries I’ve skimmed through so far have been quite good. It’s interesting to consider the connections between them. The past and the future of the internet exist on a continuum rather than as two separate things, as Kim suggests. … Continue reading

    Crime online

    by
When we were brainstorming ideas for The Internet Course, someone mentioned crime as one of the impacts. The truecrimers among us were very pleased. Criminology has produced plenty of research on cybercrime. Another way to find out about it is … Continue reading

    Hilda’s Lefsa

    by

I was wrong about the Lefsa recipe. It wasn’t Mabel’s recipe I was thinking of, it was Hilda’s. It’s an easy mistake to make, really, the sisters lived one floor apart in Weyburn Saskatchewan for much of my adult life. Visiting my grandma during those years always included Mabel, and for a while with Aunt […]

    Spring, again

    by

Sitting on the back deck basking the sun I feel my skin absorbing the warm rays it feels photovoltaic I watch the sparrows that live in the roof land and cautiously peck at the bread I have left for them (hoping as I did so that I was feeding them and not the cat) If […]
