    Final Weekly Summary

    by
Well folks… we did it! Welcome to the last weekly summary. Such a bittersweet feeling. via GIPHY The final project for this class was a fun way to stretch your brain, and use all the information and tools we learned these past 5 weeks! For my story, I turned the classic Little Mermaid story, and put a space-popstar-sad twist on it! I used a visual design element, an audio element, and a video element in my final project. I made posters, some audio clips, a gif, and a video! This was the final product: Ursula won this round… via GIPHY I also created How-To posts on how I did all my media, one for the posters, the vocals for Ariel, the dream sequence, and the gif. And for anyone who now has the song stuck in your head, here you go… When I was done with the project, I took a moment to reflect on this class, what I learned, what I would do differently next time, and what my favorite/least favorite parts were! I’m sad this class is over, I really did enjoy every part of it. I guess all I can say is…so long… farewell… via GIPHY Catch you on the flip side, 106ers! via GIPHY

I’m going to be real for a second, I feel like I’ve been in a slump this week. But worry not, I was able to finish everything for this week! For starters, I learned about “reading” movies. I looked more into the editing/filming techniques. Though I learned that in one of my assignments, I misused […]

    Weekly Summary 4

    by
Nearly there folks… nearly there. And this week it’s video week! The week I’ve been looking forward to most! via GIPHY It’s always a fun time at the movies. Watching movies together is something my brother and I do all the time. We lock ourselves in the basement, and try to make a dent in the long list of movies we made. I often fall asleep in the middle of them, but I digress. One of my favorite movies of all time is The Shining, and I got to dissect parts of it along with some Tarrantino! via GIPHY On the other side of my favorite movies list is Good Will Hunting. Who doesn’t love a good two hours of looking at Matt Damon? He’s wicked smaht. So analyzing the bar scene in that movie was really fun! Here’s some bonus Matt Damon talking about Will Hunting for your day. Then it was time to get my hands dirty with some video editing for myself! The first thing I did really didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. Which is okay, but I wish it had because it would’ve been pretty cool! I reflect more on why I think it didn’t turn out the way I wanted in the post. I also tried to be a vlogger for the day and film my day! Luckily it was a nice day around Charleston. via GIPHY I did four daily creates this week. One for June 11th, June 13th, June 14th, and June 15th. No rest for tweeting thumbs! The fact that my plant video didn’t work as expected was definitely the biggest disappointment, but it’s okay. It’s a learning experience, and next time I try I know I need to devote the whole day to it, and make sure my SD cards are able to hold all the footage I film. My favorite part of the week was analyzing movies, because looking at movies from a different perspective is a great way to stretch the brain! I also love looking at what my classmates are doing, and how they’re developing! and… scene! That’s a wrap on week four!

The assignments for this week were all very new to me because I think I am the most unfamiliar with Sound Storytelling. I am glad that there were several examples and resources to look at. At the beginning of the week, I started watching Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad explain the basics of sound storytelling. […]

    Weekly Summary 2

    by
Week two was definitely more challenging than week one. I had a lot more on my plate this week, and finding the time to write posts about all of my projects were difficult. But I liked the actual assignments so that made it fly by! The week started off by a reading of the Vignelli Canon, and then writing about my opinions. As I mention in the reading, I was actually doing this assignment while waiting for my American Airlines flight, which is a logo Vignelli helped design! They have since then changed the logo, but it was still cool. via GIPHY Next was a design blitz, which really was a blitz. I started in the airport in Charlotte, NC, and completed it when I had landed in San Antonio. It made me realize just how much logos impact our day-to-day life. Once I had made a conscious effort to look at them, I couldn’t NOT see them! It really made me wonder about what all these logos that I’m so used to seeing looked like in their rough draft stages? What would the chic-fil-a logo look like if they hadn’t gone with the option they did? Makes you think. I looked it up and found this article that actually has some of the rough drafts of famous logos! Crazy to look at. https://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/the-7-most-ridiculous-rough-drafts-famous-brand-logos/ The part of the week I liked the most was doing the design assignments. The Design Assignment bank to pick from is always fun to look through. This week I: Made my own logo to use, Went to sing some Karaoke (Greatest Hits of ABBA of course) in Egypt, via GIPHY It went something like that… Went to Amsterdam for a quick visit, Became a cartoon, Swagged out my pup, And sneezed a little bit. (Bless you) (Thank you) Not as cute as this sneeze though. I also did three Daily Creates. One for May 27th May 29th, And May 30th. However, my absolute favorite part of the week was doing two of the Gif assignments, because they called for me to do some reflecting on memories that I love thinking about. The first was the time Braden Holtby saved the entire Washington Capitals Stanley Cup run. I have watched this video a thousand times, because it just makes me get teary eyed every single time. So I had to do it for the gif assignment about the best sports play. Because it is THE best sports play. I also got to look at some old home movies, which I also like to do quite frequently. This one might be as cute as the panda sneezing video. via GIPHY The hardest part of the week, personally, was scrambling to edit all my posts after receiving the feedback from last week. I know it’s very very hard to grade everyone’s posts, but it was very late in the week, and was hard to apply those corrections when I had already written all of my posts for my assignments. Writing the actual posts about my projects still remains to be the part I struggle the most with motivation. I love doing the projects, but writing about them is still just like pulling teeth. I love to reminisce, so this week’s projects were fun for me to do. And as always, it’s great to look at the work other students are doing, not to copy, but to learn and gain inspiration, and mostly to encourage those around you. I commented on a couple blogs this week. Here, here, and here. The postcard from paris inspired me the most! I can’t wait for next week. via GIPHY

    Weekly Summary 1

    by
This week was a fun one! I like photography, but am a very novice photographer. I like to do it mostly for myself, and my memories. So it was fun to try new things including taking photos in a new way. First, I followed the tips to make myself a better photographer by David DuChemin. This was my summary on what I came out with It was fun to implement new thought processes on my picture taking, and I want to try and think about these tips more often when taking photos. Next was the photo blitz assignment, which was fun. I think I stressed myself out too much with the idea of being timed, but came out with a result I’m proud of nonetheless. I discuss it further in my reflection below, which also holds my photos I took then. I also did Daily Creates for May 20th, May 21st, and May 22nd. They were all just easy questions to be answered, but were interesting questions that I hadn’t been asked before. For the creative assignments I made Harry Styles swim in our pool, Gave a room tour, Made a butterfly stand out, and gave myself a spubble, which is an odd phrase. I really liked the assignments this week. The hardest part for me was actually writing about what I’d done. Doing the projects was easy and enjoyable, but writing about them for some reason for me was like pulling teeth. But it’s just going to take some time for me to get used to! Learning about visual storytelling is engaging to me. The work of breaking it down into smaller pieces and dissecting them is something I’ve never done before, but is something so important to do. Every part is important, and visual might be the most important. Without visual aspects, storytelling isn’t as efficient.
