    But is Gif Art?

    by
I’ve come across a couple of interesting projects this week involving animated gifs. 1840s GIF party: call for submissions | Tate and The GIF the Portrait Project. So far I’ve giffed a few images from the the Take 1840 exhibition. I then to find animating gifs as an end in itself, it is interesting that […]

    Tilling the soil

    by
Since we are talking about rhizomes I thought tillage is also important. Tillage is the agricultural preparation of soil by mechanical agitation of various types, such as digging, stirring, and overturning. One of the advantages of tilling the soil is that … Continue reading

    The Patience of Doctor Rolfe

    by
Well, that David @dkernohan was bugging me about getting around to making the True Friend badge for my True Friend Doctor @VivienRolfe and he even defaced his own True Friend badge (technically a violation of his True Friend badge license) but I forgive him because I was taking a bit of a while but it was because […]

GIFfing it Like it Was 1872

    by
Don't Rage around Miss Cicely Alexander! This is a response to the Tate’s call for their 1840s GIF party — they have made images available from selected pieces of art from their 1840s room and inviting anyone to remix as a GIF. That is such a good idea I made it into a ds106 assignment. I chose as my subject James Abbott McNeill Whistler’s Harmony in Grey and Green: Miss Cicely Alexander (1872-4). I saw movement possibility in the pair of butterflies, but was curious about the item at the base of the window sill… it is just some sort of etching ?? but when I saw the image it reminded me of one of those silly rage faces. The first step was selecting the butterflies and putting each in a layer. On the base layer, I clone brushed in beneath them. To be able to animate the rage head, […]

    Celebrating 3 Years of ds106rad.io

    by
As I write this, we are moments away from the 3rd anniversary of our beloved #ds106rad.io. As I have noted before, shortly after Grant Potter introduced the Voice of DS106 Digital Storytelling, the Internet-based ds106radio station, it suddenly seemed that every single tweet coming out of @jimgroom had the #ds106radio tag. It was almost spammish in it’s […]

Join in and Celebrate the 3rd Birthday of #ds106radio

    by
cc licensed ( BY SA ) flickr photo shared by Alan Levine Can You Dig It? (the original call sign) January 23 marks the day in 2011 when a blog post from Grant Potter announced ds106 Radio. I hope people who have been part of the community before, or just have been a listener, or just want to be near something cool, spend some time tomorrow celebrating this birthday. I’m not going to be explaining all about our internet based free form wide open manager-less radio station — see http://ds106.us/ds106-radio I made the image above as one of the pre-cursor bits, today’s Daily Create was to make a birthday card.. I will tip the hat that tomorrow’s is to post an audio birthday greeting to SoundCloud. cc licensed ( BY NC SA ) flickr photo shared by Andrew Forgrave There are not choreographed organized plans tomorrow, it’s just another day […]

    ETMOOC Anniversary #etmchat Twitter Chat

    by

On Tuesday January 14th I hosted an #etmchat Twitter Chat for the Post Etmooc community to celebrate the anniversary of ETMOOC. My friend Susan Spellman Cann co-hosted and Alec Couros, instigator and lead learner in ETMOOC, was our guest. The chat was a huge success. There were almost 400 tweets sent in 75 minutes. Too […]

    Threading Bullets

    by
A the end (or endless end) of the headless ds106 course, Mariana published a wonderful reflection on her tumblr DS106 in 106 posts and 106 bullets published at 1:06. Mariana and I have been musing on a collaborative project based on the list. As she commented on her own post: * An exclusive Radio Show […]

Cheating as Learning #rhizo14 week 1

    by

I am participating in Dave Courmier‘s Rhizomatic Learning cMOOC at Peer 2 Peer University which started this week. I really enjoyed Dave’s session on Rhizomatic Learning in ETMOOC and I am excited to participate in this unstrucutred learning experience with a group of friends that I have (virtually) met in other MOOCs, games and learning […]

    The Glass Manifesto

    by
cc licensed ( BY NC ND ) flickr photo shared by Ben Kilgust But for a curious link click among the flow of twitter Transom » Ira Glass: http://t.co/L3K9xKGU9a — AWooldridge (storyt) (@storytellin) January 16, 2014 As my friend Darren Kuropotwa asked, I do not even know who “AWoolridge” is except I am finding excellent storytelling resources in his/her twitter stream, so thanks. Where this link led was a blog post/article on Transom (a key resource for learning about and teaching audio) that is almost 10 years old. Yeah the web, it’s just about the moment, it is so ephemeral. A post from 2004 really knocked me on the floor with how powerful it is for understanding and teaching key elements of storytelling. This is the web I love. The Transom Review looks like an online version of a journal, this one devoted to Ira Glass, the legend 9at least […]

    ETMOOC Anniversary and Noam Chomsky

    by
Well, Tuesday January 14th was like old home week as the ETMOOCers gathered around our twitter feed (#etmchat/#etmooc) and chatted about what we had accomplished since starting ETMOOC. Quite a buzz! Some people described it as a high school reunion! As...
