Reading Response Week 3 ā€“ Iā€™m a DIYer, Who Knew?

    by
This week we read the introductory chapter of Lankshear And Knobel (2008) Ch1: DIY Media: A Contextual Background And Some Contemporary Themes. Once again Lankshear and Knobel put together an engaging and interesting perspective on new media.  I had never thought of the act of participating and creating in new media as part of the … Continue reading Reading Response Week 3 – I’m a DIYer, Who Knew?

    Guess the Word

    by
This week’s assignment from the Assignment Bank was to create a video of someone signing (finger spelling) a word for others to guess. I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone could figure out the word I chose to spell. To create this video, I used an iPhone 6 to record the video and edited it with iMovie.…

    Week 3 Critique

    by
It is hard to believe this course is almost halfway over!  At the same time, though, my mindset has changed so much since first receiving the syllabus that it is also hard to believe it has only been three weeks.  I  think one of my greatest improvements this week came in the form of time […]

Self Affirmations ā€“ Iā€™m Good Enough, Iā€™m Smart Enough, and Doggone it, People Like Me!

    by
Daily Affirmations – poor Stuart Smalley. https://t.co/tkviIuQ8sD — Darlesa (@darlesac) June 26, 2016 Inspired by last week’s digital critique, this week I began listening to Amy Cuddy’s audio book, which she released in 2015 following her Ted Talk.  Her Ted Talk on How Our Body Language Shapes Who We Are became one of the most … Continue reading Self Affirmations – I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough, and Doggone it, People Like Me!

    Reflection is deep-week 3

    by
This has been a rough week for technology. First hypothesis had a bug and then Google Chrome decided to quit connecting to the internet. Then I tried to annotate with internet explorer and that was a fail. SO for this week I am currently short one story critique annotation I will try to find a way […]

    Reflection Week 3

    by
This week was a hectic one for me.  I am running a summer camp and we are about to finish up our last week.  Not to mention my little brother graduated high school on Friday this week, so I was in rural Upstate New York for the weekend.  This means little to no internet, spotty […]

    3 Years in 3 Minutes!

    by
This weeks challenge was to create a video that paid homage to something I care about. I knew immediately I wanted to create a video about my daughter but I had no idea what approach to take at first. So I started by looking through my videos and realizing I had most of the good […]

    Reading Reflection

    by
http://hackeducation.com/2015/01/16/what-do-we-mean-by-open-education As I believe that education is the great equalizer in all of humanity, I also believe that we are getting closer and closer to a world without limitations (economic) on education to the degree that has been since the … Continue reading

Mixed Nuts & Bolts – Week 3 Reflections

    by
Things really came together for me this week conceptually. From our readings about DIY and the recommended/personal interest readings, the idea of perception of worth is really starting to gel in my mind. In the hands-on and online DIY culture, it’s about the value that the finished “product” has for the creator/produser and the enjoyment… Continue reading Mixed Nuts & Bolts – Week 3 Reflections

    Mie Howse: Daily Create #1630

    by
Today’s dailycreate gave me the opportunity to learn how to use a drawing program. I one used Microsoft Paint (unsuccessfully), but found this site online! I decided to pretend to be a child when I drew it (since it’s my childhood home). The “fill” function on the pen tool gave me some really cool effects!

DIY ā€“ Not just about Pinterest

    by
Confession:  I am a DIY Pinterest fan!  Huge DIY Pinterest fan.  I have over 318 “pins” just waiting to be created so when I read the title of our required reading this week, I was intrigued: Lankshear and Knobel (2008) Ch.1: DIY Media: A Contextual Background and Some Contemporary Themes.  DIY in media?  What is […]

    by
http://www.poetryfoundation.org/resources/learning/articles/detail/70244   WOW!!!! So many great examples of chant poems in this article. I love the work that all of these students created… and I love the idea of sharing it with my own students. This article did a great job of building some background knowledge on how poetry began. It reminded me to think […]

    DIY Media Reading Response

    by
Wow- Talk about overload… So much new information to me. It was very interesting to actually read the background of DIY I had no idea that it went back to the 70’s. I thought this was a fairly new trend- such as what we are seeing on all the tv shows, pinterest, etsy, etc. Little […]
