Response – How to Read a Movie

    by
Famous movie critic Roger Ebert presented a interesting and thought provoking idea about movies and screen in his article “How to Read a Movie“.  When watching movies, I had never thought much about the physical locations of characters on the screen in terms of their stance in relation to others.  With that said, when watching ...

Explain what your favorite word from another language is, and tell us why you like it.

    "Décolleté"
I don't know why the sound is a little off...I made this video like three times and just decided to go with it in the end. Looks kinda funny. Bear with me.

Video One: "The Guy Who Slipped"

    by
I knew I wanted to make a stop-motion for my first movie, but I decided that using another person would be easiest. Rather than me having to move the subject after every shot, the subject can simply move itself, which makes the process go much quicker....

    MY FIRST VIDEO

    by
Alright, so I finally completely my first video assignment. I'm very excited about it! I got the idea to do this video ever since I was first introduced to the "Will it Blend?" videos by Tom Dickerson. My process was rather tedious, but I ended up real...

The Screen Demands it be Over the Top

    by
The Reality Principle gave the impression that reality show participants consistently know the role they are going to be playing in the final product. I disagree with this notion. The process of shaping a person’s participation in the show is sometimes something the individual may be unaware of during the process of filming. As an example, ...

None of This Ever Really Happened

    by

I personally am a big fan of fantasy. It’s otherworldliness and make believe stories are fascinating and captivating. I also think scripted shows though they never happen draw on people and matter. People don’t go to midnight premiers of Harry Potter because its silly and has no draw on their lives, they go because the characters mean something important to them.

Reality television though it is based on the interactions of real people being themselves their is a certain amount of what is show is not true to real life. In real life people go to the bathroom and eat food and sleep. Reality shows use only specific and interesting footage where the 8 or so hours a person sleeps is left out.

It seems that reality shows are interesting to people for some of the same reasons that scripted shows are. There is some sort of climax or “big reveal.” They follow a certain story line and leave people with some sort of after feeling being that was really stupid, she looks so pretty, or I wish they hadn’t voted my favorite person off the island. People make connections with the people they see. There are certain reality shows I find interesting. Overall I find reality shows to be uninteresting or the people participating in them to be bothersome.

Perhaps the reason is some what based in the idea that most reality shows aren’t meant to teach or comment on something like scripted shows. Most episodes have some sort of direct purpose or statement it is trying to make where as much of reality shows are meant to be watched as a spectacle.

Here is my very favorite  reality show.

Response to “Reality Hunger: A Manifesto”

    by
Ok, so with this one I have to start a little differently. David Shields does something very interesting in “Reality Hunger: A Manifesto”. Throughout the text he lists several famous writers and/or philosophers. And to be honest, this really got my attention. It put me back in my high school philosophy class seat. For a ...

    Response to "The Reality Principle"

I watched "The Truman Show" for the first time only a week ago, and one thing I kept thinking throughout is if people actually dedicate their entire lives to reality television. That is, sleep, eat, and live every part of your life while living as...

Let me begin by saying that I loved and hated this essay. I mostly hated it because of all the references...I'm glad you're well-read and all, but I'm afraid I haven't read half of the things this man is talking about (maybe that's just me).I mostly ju...
