As an open course, ds106 has been delivered numerous times, not only at the University of Mary Washington, but elsewhere as well. Open participants have followed along an ongoing scheduled offerings or pick their own level of participation from the avialable resources. In 2013, we offered a stand alone open course, the Headless ds106, compiled from these previous offerings.
In this instance, ds106 is a course that is always happening… and never ends. But this has always been run on a semester like schedule, new content every week, and that timeline is one that open participants ought not to be bound by. So the Headless ds106 syllabus has been repackaged here as an ongoing open experience. You could choose to do it on a weekly schedule, or more spread out. Or you could do it in an order that works better for you. You can do it alone, or gather a group of colleagues, students, friends. Or you can take, modify, and use out materials for your own purpose. You pick your own schedule, path, and classmates.
In our experience, it works better when you are doing similar work along side others, but that is now an open option.
So what now? First of all, see the list of suggested things to set up for your own ds106 experience. Set up your blog, and if not already associated with this site, sign it and yourself up (use the option to select the Open ds106 Course).
Get yourself into one of our community spaces, the #ds106 tag in twitter or the ds106 Community in Google+. Or use some other space.
If you are running a course or similar experience where your students will be blogging in their own space (“aka the ds106 way”) you can let us know, and we can create a special aggregation area just for your group.
Get into ds106 at whatever level fits you, just make some art, for the sake of the internets (and yourself)
