    Week 6 Motivation

Ringo is here to tell say, “you can do it!” This quote by Walt Disney is very famous, however, Ringo make its look much better. His wink really seals the deal. To my fellow seniors: keep going, we’re almost there! #DesignAssignme...

    Fredericksburg: Your Dream Vacation

    by
Here is my destination post card. I can’t wait to send it to all of my friends! Fredericksburg definitely is not the first place I think of as a nice destination vacation, but it is also not the worst place. #DesignAssignments #DesignAssignm...

    Cool Letters

    by
This website is really cool and I am glad I found it as a reference to use in the future. Writing my name is fun and all, but this website does a lot of exciting things that you can customize. #DesignAssignments #DesignAssignments2101

    Destination Post Card

    by
This is my last assignment for the Design Assignments this week! This assignment required me to make a postcard. I decided to use a picture of the Scottish Highlands because I went there for Christmas this past year and absolutely loved it. I again used Canva for this assignment since I’m still learning graphic design and this website is really helpful! I found the picture on Google and then uploaded it to Canva, then I added the text and I had my postcard! Super easy and fun assignment. I have to say, the design assignments have been my favorite so far this semester.

    Contradiction Creation

    by
This assignment required me to create a “contradiction creation.” I simply had to make a design with an image accompanied by a text that is the opposite of the image. I decided to choose a picture of a landfill with the text “it’s a beautiful world.” I thought this would definitely be contradicting. To make the design, I again used Canva. I searched for a picture of a landfill on the website, inserted it into my template, and then added the text! Easy and fun assignment!

    Charity Ad

    by
This assignment required me to create an ad for a charity, made up or real, to encourage someone to donate. I chose the non-profit, Kiva. Kiva isn’t a charity in the traditional way. Kiva is a microloan lending nonprofit that allows someone to loan any amount of money to someone anywhere in the world. The people requesting loans on Kiva are typically doing so to start a business, help make their current business grow, buy more resources for their farm, etc. Kiva is exceptionally awesome because it directly empowers people in developing countries. I loaned $25 to a woman in Nigeria who wanted money to buy new farming tools and seeds for her garden so she could feed her children and sell her surplus at a market! The great thing about Kiva is that it is a loan program, not a grant. People are held accountable to repay their loans and there is incredible repayment rate. Once your loan is repaid, you are given the option to loan some or all of it back out to someone else on the website in need, rather than transferring the money back into your own account. To make the poster, I again used Canva. I searched for a rural village image since I think Kiva is most beneficial to people living in rural, developing regions of the world. I then used the text setting to add the name Kiva and the company’s slogan. If you’re thinking of donating your tax returns this year, I definitely suggest looking into Kiva!

    It’s all in the design

    by
What is design? When I first read this question, I thought I had an easy answer. However, when I tried to answer it, I had trouble putting into words what design actually is. What is design? What is it’s purpose? What makes something look like something? What distinguishes design from decoration? This week started off […]

    Minimalist Movie Poster

    by
For this assignment, I had to make a movie or tv poster in a minimalist way. I decided to do one for the movie Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. The movie is definitely a tear-jerker, but one of my favorites. The assignment was linked in this week’s “weekly assignment” blog so I thought I’d give it a go! It was a pretty easy assignment overall, but it required you to think. I chose a picture of a DVD because in the movie the main character, Greg, and his best friend, Earl, make their own versions of classic or foreign movies. When Rachel, the dying girl, gets diagnosed with cancer, they begin to make movies for her- hence the DVD in my poster. I was originally going to use a picture of all the movies that Greg and Earl made, but after looking at other examples from people who had already done the assignment, I realized that picture wouldn’t meet the minimalist requirement. I used Canva to make the movie poster. I would definitely suggest this site to graphic design beginners! There are so many tools and cool designs on there, and it makes the process REALLY easy and fun! I selected the poster template and then selected a grey background. I put in my own text and cropped it the way it looks now. When I chose the DVD image, it was red and orange, but I felt like the best way to keep with the minimalist theme was to keep the colors neutral. The great thing about Canva is that you can change the colors of images you want to add to your design. I would definitely suggest this assignment to other students in the class! Don’t forget to check out my Instagram post about it as well!
